If there's anybody the Georgetown holier than thou types hate more than Rick Pitino, it might be Buzz Williams. Why do the “holier than thous” dislike Buzz Williams ? I am on Team Pitino but IMO Buzz would be a big- big upgrade over the present coaching tree. Buzz Lightyear would be a big upgrade over our current staff.

Great post. I am so glad you could be there and wish I was there. The Hoyas played hard last night and made some progress. That may be the best we can hope for during this season- slow and painful progress. It is what it is. I always will be proud to be a Hoya fan and I hope that they keep fighting. Happy Holidays to all, and GO HOYAS as always. they did play better last night, but I have a hard time viewing it as progress. Spears and Wahab hit a lot of tough shots - which is great, but not something that is going to happen consistently. If we had generated more open shots through ball movement, or denied UConn good shots through better D - that would be progress. But we played the same poorly schemed offense and defense we always play last night. We gave up a devastating late game run that quickly blew the game open, just as we do in most games against decent teams. We just made more tough shots, and UConn went cold from 3 in the second half. so we were competitive until the tough shots stopped falling, and we instantly gave up the crushing run of "bad shot/turnover/fast break dunks and threes" that wreck every game in a matter of minutes. Credit to the team for playing a strong game against a good team in a tough environment. But I did not see much that has me thinking last night was an indicator of meaningful progress. ^^^ This Plus what is progress really when who knows who’ll even be on this roster next year and/or who’ll be leading them? If Anglin, Bass, or Mutombo were part of this I’d say it’s a building block. But to have these mercenaries, where it seems Ewing/Nickelberry promised 38 mins a game, leading the way (who won’t have multiple years ahead of them as Hoyas), not really sure there’s anything to gain.

Defining “backcourt”, debating Peyton Siva, etc. We’ve really lost the plot here after this one. Guess losing will do that to a fanbase… I thinI the plot was lost when people started saying we have to have Rick Pitino and have a legitimate shot at getting him Ha. This we can agree on.

Other than adding snark or debate for the sake being literal, the point of this is what? 8 turnovers from a single player regardless of position is not good. I don’t understand why it matters? I’m actually not talking to you unless Dan is your other screen name. So just leave it alone with your snark. Dan can speak for himself. He doesn’t need you. You do you. Just an odd hill to die on with so many more things worthy of discussion.

Recruiting rankings are the only way to measure talent coming in agnostically. Once they get into a program then development is critical. So Ewing is either recruiting guys who are overrated OR is not developing them. Neither is good. I don’t disagree these guys aren’t living up to their ratings or stars, but I still think the raw talent on this roster is better than the bottom half of the BE. Agree to disagree then. Whether you believe Ewing is destroying a talented roster or I believe that Ewing assembled a roster pretty devoid of talent (or some combination of the two, which may be the most likely case), the blame lays at his feet for all of it. Fair. It’s probably a combo.

The team roster lists Murray as a guard. But what is he playing. Small forward. Starting backcourt would be Spears and Heath. Neither can play forward. When people refer to starting backcourt, most would say that is two players, your point guard and shooting guard. If it is a three person starting backcourt (which isn’t really a common term) then that should be noted as Heath had 0 turnovers and you have 12 turnovers spread out over three players. Other than adding snark or debate for the sake being literal, the point of this is what? 8 turnovers from a single player regardless of position is not good. I don’t understand why it matters?

Murray, Akok, Wahab, Anglin, Mutombo were all 4* recruits/prospects. Say what you want about their development but you’d be hard pressed to find more “pedigree” on those other teams. Who cares about pedigree? Frankly we have no idea if Anglin is any good. I’ve said before I think some of the guys on the bench have talent and he’s one of them. But we really have no idea. Akok is more athleticism than talent. Wahab? really? You’ve really watched him play this year and come to the conclusion that he’s talented? Murray is whatever. Some people feel he’s talented. I don’t see it. Recruiting rankings are the only way to measure talent coming in agnostically. Once they get into a program then development is critical. So Ewing is either recruiting guys who are overrated OR is not developing them. Neither is good. You can’t tell me we have worse talent than Butler, SHU, DePaul, or SJU though. Why not? Who on this team is so twlented? The point guard that doesn’t pass and takes wildly inefficient shots? The SG shooting 42% that is here simply to showcase himself for the nba and sulks when he plays badly (which is most of the time)? The C who can’t make a layup and is incapable (unwilling?) of passing the ball? I would love to know specifically where all this talent on this team is. Frankly I thought last years team had more basketball talent. And again, this is in no way a defense of Ewing in any way shape or form. I just don’t see the talent level on this team. Murray, Akok, Wahab, Anglin, Mutombo were all 4* recruits/prospects. Say what you want about their development but you’d be hard pressed to find more “pedigree” on those other teams.

You may disagree in the same direction as I’d second guess my own take: maybe the roster construction/talent is such that it was never gonna be close at the end, regardless of coach drawing up the Xs and Os and putting players on the floor. I don’t quite agree with that but certainly can understand the perspective.. Yea basically this. I’ve been saying for a while in many places that I personally don’t see the level of talent on this team that many others do. Athleticism absolutely. But we are severely lacking in talent in a lot of ways imo. You can’t tell me we have worse talent than Butler, SHU, DePaul, or SJU though.

12 of the 14 turnovers were committed by the starting backcourt. Do you mean small forward? Cause Murray had what 8 turnovers as our starting undersized small forward. Because that’s an important distinction we should be focusing on…

Does anyone doubt that if the coaches were reversed tonight at worst this is a buzzer beater type final, and maybe even a 10 point Hoya win? My friend, a UConn guy, literally just said the same thing to me.

This Big East/high major losing streak is beyond depressing DePaul and Butler next. There's a chance we can steal one, right? We have a habit of looking good against good teams and then playing down to lesser ones. I still don’t feel any better in those games.

Outscored by 18 over the last 10 mins. Feel for the guys who give it their all but are not put in a position to succeed.

7 pt lead at the 10 min mark and we may lose by 15 still.
But I’m sure this will be viewed as a great moral victory and a sign we are close. I mean it was nice but never felt sustainable to trade tough 2s for open 3s.

20 more 3PA for them.
The real question - can they still cover?

Who didn’t see this coming. Buddy texted me when we were up 7 that we look good. I told him we still lose by 10 and this is fools gold. He immediately bet UConn live so at least he is happy with me. I had my out of state friend do the same.

15-2 run in 2 mins. Can set a clock to our inevitable and rapid collapses.
