This one will help the RPI, in addition to be a giant LOL:
Congrats to Nikki Izzo-Brown for taking what looked like a rather low energy WVU squad this year and getting themselves a ring and a ticket to the tourney.

Get it done ladies. Bring home the title. Hope there has been a lot of PK work this week--- a whole new dimension to Big East soccer this year. The showdown we were denied last year when Xavier got Zsani Kajaned at home in the semis. Maybe if the Hoyas win, we'll be rewarded with some more quotes of Nate Lie throwing his players under the bus... Unseasonably warm, but pretty overcast. Doesn't feel like November win-or-go-home time, but I don't think anyone's complaining. Will be interesting to see how many people make it out. It's a pretty quick trip on a Sunday, and I'm sure there's plenty of suburbanites for whom it's more convenient than campus. But... you're not really making a day of it in Boyds, no disrespect intended.

For what it's worth, Scott Gottlieb has a thread that grapples with the loss of faith in the public health establishment that I spoke to earlier and how that is exacerbating the current situation with flu and RSV

It says something that, per someone following them since 2012, this was Creighton's best effort in the last decade at least...and it still ended as a 1-0 Hoyas win.
8-4-8 is also just an asinine record. Bring back regular season OT, please.

Well, here we are: tournament time.
I admit to being disproportionately bummed the Hoyas couldn't post one final clean sheet against Butler and finish the regular season unscored upon. It's dumb, because it's not like they give you any bigger trophy for that, and I doubt the seeding committee looks at a 2-2 draw any different than 0-0. But it would've made for a real fun story! And narrative is really why we love sports, after all.
Ah well. Bigger fish to fry now.
Speaking of trophies... Julia Leas was the only unanimous selection among any of the Big East annual awards - including the first, second, and all-freshman teams. That's wild. This is someone pressed into playing out of position!! Talk about narrative... the unquestioned conference player of the year, and someone who should be a Hermann Trophy finalist. She'd never win it - no non-offensive player will - but she deserves a free trip to KCMO.
The other storyline that's top of mine...Henley Tippins making the all-freshman team despite being injured most of the year. Oh what might have been... at least we hear, pee John Fanta, that Cyanne has resumed training and could be back on the pitch soon.
Quite a juxtaposition - not many blowouts, a lot of 1-0 results against inferior competition...and yet at the end of it all, a one-loss regular season across conference and non, and only a pair of draws short of a flawless BIG EAST campaign. Is there such a thing as subdued domination?
One feels that the Hoyas could be on the cusp of another step as a program, up to the level of true national championship contenders. That would be a far more meaningful achievement than shutting out the entire conference.

Quite a statement win. Really exerted their will as the game went on. Xavier was game and made a couple of nice plays, but they just didn't have the quality to hang with a Georgetown team that was locked in.
With the win, the Hoyas lock up the #1 seed and at least a share of the regular season title. The outright crown will come with a result against last place Marquette next Saturday. Plenty of time to get the trophy down to DC from league HQ.
I'm betting Xavier still gets Coaching Staff of the Year for what they've done this season, but Brian, Connor, Mike, and Bouhl deserve enormous credit for getting this team's head up through the early season struggles and getting them to play up to their considerable potential.

The schedulemakers lucked out: Xavier was picked to finish dead last in the preseason conference poll, but instead their first-year head coach has them as one of only five unbeaten teams left in the country. I guess he picked up a thing or two down there at the University of Indianapolis. Coaching Staff of the Year for sure, you'd have to think. So now we get what is for all intents and purposes the Regular Season title game on the penultimate weekend.
Moreover, Xavier is coming off of their bye matchday,so they'll be well-rested and well-prepared. Hoping for a great crowd!

And there we have it: Xavier is held scoreless at home by Providence, causing them to drop their 5th and 6th points off of the maximum possible. The Hoyas' lone points dropped thus far are their draw with the Musketeers, and with only a game left, the fewest they could possibly finish with is 25. Georgetown is your 2022 Regular Season Champion and the #1 seed in the inaugural Big East Tournament at the Maryland Soccerplex.
