Was wondering if/hoping this would actually happen: What would be really cool is if we could do home-and-homes within the divisions, rather than the imbalanced 5 in-division + 3 cross-division model they opted for, such that the Hoyas would get to avoid having to play on the turf monsters that are the Butler Bowl, Wish Field, and whatever Xavier's pitch is called. Although Creighton's Morrison Stadium is a gem and those are great regular season battles. It would just be too many conference games, right? You could only have 2 or 3 OOC games if you did that. Unless they do go to a fall/spring model and allow a couple more games.... This year, with 11 teams, they played a 10-game conference schedule - you play every team once. They are moving to 12 teams and an imbalanced 8-game conference schedule: you play each of the other 5 teams in your division once plus 3 of the 6 teams in the other division. My proposal would be to not have any cross-division games until the tournament, but rather home-and-homes with each of the other five teams in your division for a total of 10 conference games, same as now.

At least they are not playing Virignia. That would be much more convenient from an "attending the game" standpoint, but from an emotional standpoint, that's just a real tough environment to be in right now. I'll never forget going to a Georgetown lacrosse game in 2007 and finding Deron Washington there, understandably freaked out by what had just transpired at Virginia Tech and looking to be around some familiar and comforting faces.

Well that was not very much fun. Also, the venue was simply unprepared to handle an event with this level of attendance. Big East & Co. going to need to do some serious lessons learned hotwashing on this one.

It will be Pitt, who got a second half goal for a 1-0 win themselves. Pitt had the better of the run of play, but Buffalo was no slouch - one could see how they were on a 16-game unbeaten streak and had only lost once on the year. All things considered, I probably prefer Pitt, who is playing in the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history (and, for that matter, played in their first ACC tournament this year - they hadn't sniffed the postseason since the 2010 *Big East* tournament). The Hofstra game itself was kind of an apotheosis of this entire season - it had the feel of a 1-0 from the start, as so many games have been this year. The Hoyas *should* be scoring more. And the opponents get just enough dangerous opportunities to make it feel like there was some luck and some dodged bullets. But the final whistle sounds and the result is a Hoya shutout all the same. Hofstra was credited with a single shot total and 0 SOG. They're no slouch - we all recall them knocking the Hoyas out of the tournament a few years ago in PKs - and a tough matchup for the Hoyas' style in particular, so it's a quality showing even if it doesn't have the wattage of something like last year's 6-0 first rounder. Kickoff against the Panthers is 2:00 pm on Friday in Tallahassee. And now for some Long Island accent action! Some Hofstra highlights:

Kudos to Xavier for representing the Big East well by going down to Knoxville and coming away with a 4-1 AET (yes, they scored 3 goals in added extra time) win over 6-seed Tennessee.
While the conference has gotten a lot more respect on the men's side the last few years, thanks to some really good tournament performances by Georgetown and Providence especially (and Creighton's always a real tough out too, plus some some new faces in the mix), the women's side is basically the ACC and SEC invitational, plus the west coast powers. Would love to see three bids as the absolute floor for the conference year in and year out.
Check out goal number three:

Looks like the current GUSA election - didn't they just have one in January? - is also having a normal one

Hoyas RPI goes from 19 to 16. If the committee goes just by RPI, that would give the Hoyas the final #4 seed.

Great job, Hoyas! The commentary was painful but the game was great. I mean, I like Fanta, but he's not everybody's cup of tea. On the flip side...as much as we all rag on FloSports, at least they let you watch replays on demand. No such luck with FS1.

Alright, credit where it's due, very well-crafted post-game remarks here from Nate. Maybe he's learning! And he's definitely got the Xavier program trending in the right direction.
