Have we ever had a Thompson on the team, who wasn't the coach?

The question is will we take a kid from the left coast over some of the local talent available in that class. Prob so, but there is a lot of area talent.

If it's even, you take the one that fits the best.

If he is that much better, yes. If it is about even then it is safer to take the local. What Chuck said--even stay local and keep pipeline running. Only time Georgetown should venture outside of the areas of DC/MD/VA is when you have kids who fit the program on/off the court and when they take their visit--which is far more important then most think--also a reason I believe this program has had quick return to elite status--the Staff/Players communicate on who would be a good fit and who wouldn't. That is why someone like Greg Monroe-who could be an early exit recruit isn't a bad fit--he's #1 in his class in terms of talent, he's got a 4.0 GPA, and those are type of kids you justify taking for a 1 and done or short term stay--he's got the grades to justify being a student. I trust III and company to do what's best and they know far more then I do--but always stay local if prospects are similar and both are good fits for the program.

Don't forget about Leslie McDonald, an '09 kid out of memphis. watched him briefly at MDC and he's got a serious skill package for a youngster. At 6'4-6'5, and a fine athlete, he's gets alot done whether on the perimeter or going to the hole.

What's the thought on '09 scholarships? I've assumed both Nikita and Omar are here on scholarship in the table, which I admit is very conservative in terms of remaining scholarships.
That said, we currently have three scholarships to give between '08 and '09. (or five, if NM and OW do not come/are not on schollie). The latter situation gives us at least three in the loaded '09 class, but the former situation has us possibly restricted to one.
Do you save an '08 for '09 for balance? Or do you assume someone transfers/goes pro?

depends on need and if someone is better in '08 or '09 and worth holding or giving a schollie too.

I think it's too early to ask that when there are so many different scenarios. For example, if JTIII lands Monroe, he's a one-and-done (assuming that any #1 ranked player out of hs is a one-and-done) and the coaching staff would assume that that scholarship would be available for the following class.
