Give him credit for speaking out. In some ways I wish that some former Hoyas now in the NBA would make statements along those lines about the situation at Gtown.
But at least (I hope) there is soap in McDonough.

And he should not park in no-parking places. Can't blame that on the college.

Paying to practice, wow thats a new one. I'd be ticked off too.
Props to him for speaking his mind.

Scholarship to play football in Hawaii? He should shut up and count his blessings. I know you were kidding, DHall, but actually, it is the other way around. Brennan set all kinds of NCAA passing records -- 72% completion percentage, 58 TD passes to name just a couple, in leading the UH to possibly its best season ever (11-3). They finished 7-1 in the WAC, losing only to top 25 ranked Boise St by a narrow 41-34 at the beginning of the season. They also beat the Big Ten's Purdue (42-35) and Pac 10's Arizona State (41-24). Brennan thought seriously about the NFL Draft where he was projected to be a first round pick. Instead, he passed up millions to return for one more year at the UH. His decision to return was the lead headline on the front page of the Honolulu Adveriser and the Star Bulletin. He made a huge sacrifice for the school and his teammates. Asking for a little soap and free parking for practive doesn't seem like much. To your point, though, there is something to be said for attending the UH, where it is 80-85 degrees year round, the girls don't wear much, and kids head to the beach right after class. Hmmm... on second thought.... maybe you were right afterall!

Well, at least our facilities aren't this bad! Don't be so sure. And as to what Hawaii offers, it sounds a lot better given that almost all student-athletes at Georgetown do not even have permanent lockers: "The Shannon Shea Smith football locker room is located next to the men’s equipment room and covers nearly 8,000 square feet. The air-conditioned facility is equipped with five meeting rooms, a trophy room, lounge, lobby, built-in display case, five additional showers and a fiberglass skylight roof. It houses 126 professional-style lockers, giving each player 38.5 cubic feet of personal storage." uhathletics.hawaii.edu/Facil/sslocker.html

It looks like a pretty nice minor league park.

Scholarship to play football in Hawaii? He should shut up and count his blessings. My neighbor got a tennis scholarship to Hawaii and fell into that trap and quickly failed out of school

That is right on in so many ways. First, our facilities are ancient. And I actually think there has been more pressure by us alumni about this issue than you think. But there is large contingent of alumni who are missing big time -- our big name former players. If a new arena is going to happen, big John and his former, rich players are going to have to step up and make a contribution. Yes, they have all helped their university, big John beyond the call of duty. But they have also become rich in part because of their relationship with this school. As a former classmate of P Ewing, I am calling on him, Mutombo, Mourning, Reggie Wiliams, Sleepy Floyd, A I, Sweetney, Wingate, Harrington, Williams, and any other Georgetown player who has made millions in the NBA to put together a matching grant of $1 million to kick off the John Thompson Sr. Court at Mcdonough Arena Campaign. Make it happen guys.

Ah, somebody had to bring it up. I hesitate to respond for fear of beating a dead horse, but I do agree with metaphor. However, didn't big John call on those guys to do something of this sort at the banquet? If so, I feel that he would have the biggest influence on these guys to donate. I doubt a letter from some student in the college would do much. So if it's going to start anywhere, it'll probably start with big John, so why discuss it if it's out of our hands?

"In 1990 Georgetown approved an ambitious campus master plan that included the construction of seven athletic fields, a tunnel linking Georgetown to Foggy Bottom,16 acres of green space and an advanced renewable energy system."
Sounds pretty far-fetched and unrealistic, just given the constraints on space on campus, and that's ignoring the financial aspect of it.

In today's Washington Post there is an article about high schools building new athletic facilities. Georgetown Prep is building a new athletic facility, moving its baseball field and upgrading its golf course at a projected cost of $35 million. The National Cathedral School built a state-of-the-art gym at a cost of $26 million. Georgetown Day built an underground gym with an artificial turf filed on top for $35 million. Where are these schools getting the money?

The money came from land that they did a long term lease on to a developer who built condos. That is where most of the dough came from. Last I checked, we don't have any land to lease or sell at this point.
