Not 'til 2008-09 season. Back 1-ft. to 20'-9" Link Better linkEdited to add: not official until May 25th, but that sounds like a formality.

This is a good move. I'd like to see them move it back even further and bring working for a good mid-range jumper back into the college game.

Not for sure yet though, is only a suggestion...they tried to move it back 9" before the 2003-2004? season but it got rejected

Is there any legitimate reason why it shouldn't be at the NBA range other than it gives less athletic mid majors the opportunity to make upsets?

Because 20'9" is the international line? I guess it's just a matter of preference.
How does this affect Georgetown?
1) As a well-coached team that probably has more than its fair share of big men, it helps us. Less chance of upsets.
2) You'd think the Princeton would be hurt by this, but it actually creates more space, as long as you've got the shooters. Where it might hurt us is that it's hard to find big men who can hit a 19' three, now they've got to step out further.
3) Anything that differentiates further between good and bad teams is good.
4) As a team, we were middle of D-I in % of FGs between threes. (Course, it helps to have Jeff and Roy). But defensively, our strategy and leads made our opponents take a very large % of threes. As long as we have a good defensive presence inside, this will help us.

I'm really not sure if this helps us or not. I would think that the conventional wisdom (not sure if it's right in this case) would be pretty simple: if you shoot a bunch of threes, this hurts. While we didn't shoot too many threes last year because of Jeff/Roy, we have shot them quite a bit since JT3 got here.
3PA/FGA Percentage (National Rank)
05: 42.6% (13) 06: 37.3% (71) 07: 34.8% (151)
At the very least, this reaffirms to me that JT3 is more than able to adjust style of play based on personnel. He'll be able to figure out how a rule change affects the system and shot selection within it.
I am a little worried because we are primarily an offensive team and this will obviously make it harder on offenses. Maybe that's good though, since we tend to be the most efficient offensive team. It could also be bad because it might help and encourage teams that run often or use zone. I'm not sure. It's definitely interesting.

I saw Roy working on his 20'9" jumper. We can all relax . . .

Wallace has the range. He regularly shoots it from farther away.

Wallace has the range. He regularly shoots it from farther away. Jeff and Jessie both have the range to do it from well beyond the shift.... and backwards (as they showed in the Final Four campout) Unfortunately PEJr doesn't have the backwards half court range, but at least he hit the rim a couple of times.

3PA/FGA Percentage (National Rank) 05: 42.6% (13) 06: 37.3% (71) 07: 34.8% (151) Hmmm, is that decline mainly the loss of Cook and Owens, or is something else going on? The maturation of Roy's offense would make us less reliant on the 3, but I don't know why it should lower our percentage. It's particularly puzzling to me because Wallace seemed to be getting better at it this season. I really miss Ashanti, BTW. Not that I'm complaining about what we've accomplished since, but he was a joy to watch.

Our actual 3-point percentage has increased -- or at least last year was our best since the late 80s.

Wait...since we need to paint new lines on the court...lets build a new facility while we are at it!!!!! That's the part I am not looking forward to ... not the new facility ... but the fact that the women's line remained the same, so our court will more resemble a high school gynasium floor with all those lines on it.

This thing will probably help Syracuse tho. I realize more holes will open up in the zone because it has to be extended further, but teams wil still have to rely on the 3 against that zone. There's this short little article in SI I read tho which talked about how this change won't have very much effect. Here: sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/seth_davis/05/15/cbk0521/index.html

This is going to screw up a lot of people's shots. I hope our guys aren't any of them.
