I doubt that. Spencer's problem -- and it wasn't his fault -- is that recruiting gurus completely overrated his ability when he was in high school. He was Anthony Perry before Anthony Perry was. Spencer is from New Orleans, my home town. While his effectiveness at Georgetown may not have matched our expectations, in high school he was a tremendous talent. He dominated in the state's highest classification. His team had several D1 caliber players on it, though in my opinion the coaching was only fair at best. IMO your comparison to Perry is accurate in that both came in with high expectations which were, unfortunately, not met. I am not sure that either was overrated, however.

No chance at Pat Patterson. heating up with Monroe. Not likely with Sarmardo and Davis. Both seem to be ACC leans at this point. Pat Patterson wouldn't have been a good fit anyway. If that is the direction they are taking, they should go after Dusty Rhodes. Or Verne Gagne. ;D

Pat woulda been a nice fit in my opinion cause he can bang as well as face up. He is physical and woulda brought more toughness. Also a good, well spoken, kid with family support.

Michael Dunigan mentioned Georgetown as one of the teams recruiting him the hardest--Florida, Indiana, DePaul, Purdue, Duke, and ND, were some of the others mentioned as well.
So we know that III is actively recruiting Greg Monroe and Michael Dunigan in addition to having commitments from Jason Clark, Chris Braswell, and Henry Sims. Monroe is versatile enough to be a SF--so he's versatile enough to have ability to play anywhere on court--including PG---although he won't be there and he needs to work on his jumpshot to be a consistent 2G type--but he can handle, pass, put it on floor, rebound, defend, and shoot well enough to be respected from outside--the kid is a great player--and one of the best Hoyas have recruited--he's built like an NBA player now--broad Dwight Howard-like shoulders, but skilled/athletic and more importantly--he possesses court-sense and unselfishness about his game.
Dunigan is more of an intimidator/shot blocker--but also very intelligent in classroom and from same HS as Kevin Garnett finished up--and the former AAU/HS legend Ronnie Fields--Chicago Farragut Academy. Michael Wright of Arizona also attended the school. Dunigan and Monroe have both mentioned schools with championship potential and STRONG academics.
Interesting that Hoyas are looking to stock up with frontcourt players this recruiting season--and makes sense seeing that Roy, Jeff, PE JR, and potential of Summers leaving early are all possibilities--still believe Summers stays at least 3 years at GU, but you never know in today's basketball world. Never hurts to load up on talented players. Hoyas are coming on strong with Monroe though--and could be a real sleeper for his commitment.

I like Dunigan a lot from what I've read. Big, physical, tough, really gets after it. At a bulky 6'10 he could probably develop into a strong college level center. Seems like a guy who can get it done on the defensive end and who will do the dirty work on the boards. Has that beast/warrior type mentality. Definitely wouldn't mind getting more involved with him, as he is supposed to be a very good student as well.
Monroe, of course, is the ultimate prize. Having seen some video on him, I mean, that #1 ranking definitely seems to be legit. I'd be really impressed if there's a high school player in the country better than him. Can't get hopes up too high since he's getting a lot of attention from the likes of UK, Duke, Texas, LSU etc all of whom have a lot to offer. But man, I think he'd be perfect here. Perfect in that Jeff Green role, a big man who is a great passer and who can just do it all.
As for focusing on the frontcourt... seems to make a lot of sense as you said, because Pat, Jeff and Roy are all scheduled to graduate in '08, and those are 3 of the 5 big pieces to our frontcourt. We've got 2 frontcourt players coming in, so I think one more at least would make good sense. But on top of that, I think there are probably a lot of good guards coming down the line. Others would probably know more about this than me, as I haven't paid all that much attention to recruiting beyond '08, but I know that 2 of the names mentioned most are Mo Creek (guard) and Wally Judge (wing). You've got the Montrose guys as well, one wing and one PF, but really not sure how III'd do recruiting with Vetter. And then in 2010, there seems to be a ton of guards being mentioned like Kendall Marshall from O'Connell, Markell Starks from Georgetown Prep, Josh Selby from Baltimore, Daryl Traynham, Tyler Thornton, and many others out there... I'd guess we'd be looking pretty hard at bringing in a few backcourt players in the years to come, but for now, it makes sense to bring in some big guys from a class that has a number of good bigs.

Thanks, there are a lot of good wing players in 09' for Gtown to go after. I think GU should take one more big man in 08' Monroe, or another PF/C. Then save the wing positions for these really talented 09 kids...

I think we should recruit Sgt. Slaughter, you maggot!
