Uggh. One less guy Buffalo needs to add to the list.
I simply can't imagine going to Syracuse over Georgetown and I was born in the boonies of New York State.

Heard this was possible, didn't realize this soon. Definitely a loss for us. I guess he wanted to be closer to home, but yea I still don't understand wanting to play in Syracuse, NY for a tool like Boeheim when you could play in DC at a better academic school for a coach like JTIII who is universally considered a good guy, in the same conference.
With Gates and Joseph committing these last 2 days, does anyone else think maybe we are already starting to see some of the effects of Broadus leaving? Not sure myself.
Also not sure who we'll look to at the SF in '08. I'm assuming we'll still make a play for at least one? Now that Joseph is off the board and Ebanks doesn't seem to be talking about us anymore, I'm really not sure. Ed Davis could still be a SF, but he mayn't be that high on us either. Maybe we could look to a SG/SF type rather than a SF/PF type like we've been looking at, maybe someone like Sylvan Landesberg or Sean Mosely? Don't know.

GREAT news!
The BE get another talented player...and the Hoyas stay free of any influence from The Enemy To The North.

Good riddance. If he's from Canada, he belongs at Canada National University. Heard he was accepted into the Honors Program - he plans to major in Multiplication Tables.

Wouldn't you think the pattern of very few SU players going on to achieve high success at the next level catch on to recruits after awhile?? As a rule, star players at SU rarely go on to achieve success in the NBA and those that do go to the NBA most often fall far short of any expectations they had. Think of many of the guys that have been "stars" at SU--Pearl Washington, Lawrence Moten, Gerry Mcnamara, Preston Shumpert, Leo Rautins, etc. Even guys who did go on to be NBA players, like Owens, Coleman, Seikaly, Thomas, Douglas--none of them with the possible exception of Coleman really amounted to much. I know some of these guys have had decent NBA careers (again, Coleman is probably the biggest exception to this rule, but even he was a big underachiever), but can anyone name one player under Jim Boeheim in the last 25 years that has gone on to be an NBA star? By the way, I'm not counting Carmelo--one and done doesn't count. Compare them to just about any other big program in the country--UNC, Duke, Michigan St., UCONN, and of course Georgetown to name a few--if you are a player who has your sights set on the NBA (never mind all the other reasons to avoid SU), why would you choose them over another top school? It seems like the track record should count for something, but this is an issue I rarely hear anyone mention with SU and Boeheim.

You have to count Carmelo. For whatever reason, kids today LOVE that guy, including a lot of kids from Baltimore (for obvious reasons) and DC. I don't know what it is, I've never thought he really had an engaging personality or anything, but kids just love the guy. That gives 'Cuse a huge advantage.

GU losing KJ to Syracuse could very well have a lot to do with playing time. For the next 3 years, we have DaJuan, Austin, Omar, Pat, Tay, Jeff (hopefully for 1 more year), and now Nikita that can fill his spot, as he is a 2 or 3, likely.

I doubt it - Jeff and Pat would be gone when he got here, Austin will likely be playing the 2 by then, DaJuan might only have 1 year left, and do you really think he'd be worried about Spann or Wattad? Obviously he was just a foolish Canadian.

Not saying he was worried, nor should he have been, but who knows what teenagers think these days?

Well that just sucks. Regardless of anything, this is us losing out on a highly ranked player to a direct competitor. Words can't express how much I dislike that team.

I think GU is seeing the fallout of the Broadus departure. Ebanks was/is a Broadus guy, Joseph, Gates, Ed Davis I don't know. I do know that Gu will have to replace a guy with strong area ties and who was a grinder. That cat put in work and built relationships. I hope the ship ain't sinking, but the recruiting can't help but take a hit. Samardo is also a Broadus guy.

Time and again I’ve read JT III say he’s trying to build a program. I’m sure part of that is a function of recruiting. Recruiting success for a program can’t be predicated on the abilities of one assistant. Kevin Broadus is gone. G-O-N-E. If JT III’s efforts at building a program are going to bear fruit he will overcome the loss of Broadus. With all due respect, I can’t believe that Broadus is the only person on the planet capable of accomplishing what he did for GU.
As for Kris Joseph -- good riddance. If he thinks the Syracuse program (hah!) is a better fit for him, fine. He'll find out the hard way.

Didn't say that. All I'm saying is you cannot discount the contacts Broadus had and the amount of work he put in. He made inroads which the other asssitants weren't able to make in the area. I know this for a fact. I also know GU has to keep these local kids home to remain successful at a high level. Alot of these kids respect III and the rest of the staff, but are/were closest to KB. It is imperative to get an assistant with strong local ties whether on the college or prep level.

Exactly--and while we hear "III is the main guy"--Broadus got Hoyas involved and commitments from kids who we'd never had a shot with in past--it's IMPORTANT to get a BIG TIME RECRUITER on this staff as one of the hires. Broadus loss is a huge blow and I don't care how good of a coach you are--if you don't have the talent--you won't win.
