Do we have any scholarship room left? Wattad committed as a walk on. His status may have changed when Egerson transferred and a schollie opened up, it may not have. Plus there's the whole "Roy and/or Jeff" go pro thing. That would open one up.

I take this as a good sign that JT3 understands he needs a Plan B. You just can't wait until April to start recruiting guys to play in the fall.
I don't know if this kid is any good, but if Roy and Jeff leave we'll need a big next year to come off the bench to defend and rebound.

Wasn't Jerome Williams a juco transfer? He turned out pretty well! Of course, Eddie Lee Scruggs was a transfer, and he didn't work out so well.

Wasn't Brian Kelly a JuCo transfer? Yes. Also, the great Trez Kilpatrick.

Eric Whitehurst is a 6'9" 215 pound Small forward from VA. He has a nice all around game, Plays great Defense. Eric and Vernon Macklin are friends they played together on Boo Williams AAU Squad.

He originally committed to VCU but when Capel left for Oklahoma decided to go juco to improve his scholarship opportunities. He was already qualified coming out of high school so academics shouldn't be an issue.

I definitely wouldn't read too much into it, there are a lot of kids that list us with medium interest, that doesn't mean they have an offer or anything.
I also wouldn't say that we "got no schollies at the moment." That's far from certain.
Receruiting a player like this makes perfect sense to me though. If we can keep at least one of Jeff and Roy, we'll have a very good frontcourt rotation like we did this year, with Macklin most likely being more ready to contribute. However, if we lose both, it starts to look somewhat sparse up front, with only DaJuan, Vernon, and Pat in the mix. Taking a JUCO big man makes good sense, because he'll probably be more ready to play than a freshman (also, the supply of uncommitted '07 big men is not especially large), and he'll only be here for 2 years. That'd mean we could use him off the bench for 2 seasons to relieve our main guys (DaJuan, Vern, and Pat) and then use that scholarship in '09. I don't think we'll pursue this if the juniors stay in school, but if they both leave, a JUCO big to provide some help off the bench is a really good idea IMO.

sounds like a fit if Jeff leaves and Roy stays.
If they both leave, eh, maybe just go into rebuilding mode and save a schollie. I know that sounds backwards but we're so hosed up front if they both leave, a 6'9 backup SF doesn't do a whole lot.
But if it's just Jeff, sure, why not add another guy into Pat and Dajuan mix.

6'9 215 makes him fairly skinny tho. And he'll be a Jr. or a So.? That might reduce how much weight he'll be able to put on. If we lose Roy and Jeff, we're going to be a very permiter oriented team.
