I watched much of the UNC game again last night.
The box score reports the 15 assists that Wallace and Sapp had, but two of Sapp's assist were absolutely spectacular- especially considering the guards combined for 3 turnovers:
Sapp finding Jeff under the basket for an easy lay-up from halfcourt in the first half
Sapp finding Macklin around the body of his defender on the screen and roll in the second half.
Those passes were Jeff Green quality. Sapp is becoming an outstanding point guard for any team.
Earlier in the year, I would have described Sapp and Wallace as completely interchangable. During the tournament, I would now describe Sapp as the point and Wallace as the shooting guard.
The backcourt is going to be crowded next year: Sapp, Wallace, Wright, and Freeman. These are high class problems to have.

Jeremiah isn't chopped liver either...
He definitely needs to work on his shooting, but he penetrates and rebounds VERY well.
Definitely a log-jam in that backcourt of ours...

Sapp's only problems have been inconsistency and shooting too much. If he plays like he did against UNC controlling the ball, making nice passes and only taking layups plus one or two open jumpers, we are in great shape!

Wallace and Sapp: 34 points, 12-for-21,15 assists, 3 turnovers. Lawson and Ellington: 10 points, 4-for-20, 6 assists, 6 turnovers.
I suppose mrsixer still stands by his assertion that our guard play will kill us, ESPECIALLY against a team like UNC.

Let me tell you, I am amped to have 5 legit guards next year . . . bring the fullourt pressure JT3!!!! The old Arkanasas "40 minutes of Hell" combined with a patient Georgetown offense, teams will dread playing the Hoyas!
The only glaring weakness on this team is our deficiency in forcing tunrovers, this will change dramatically next season.

Oh by the way: Hoyas' starting backcourt for the tourney 97pts 30assts 8tos Counterparts for the tourney 74pts 18assts 17tos Yeah, they're that good.

The only glaring weakness on this team is our deficiency in forcing tunrovers, this will change dramatically next season. I disagree that this is a deficiency. Our defense is predicated on forcing the opponent to take low percentage shots, not overplaying passing lanes or other risk/reward strategies that cause turnovers. Given the success we have had on the defensive front (such as most recently), I am not going to suggest we employ a different strategy for the sake of "improved" statistics. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if our depth at guard next year might cause the coaching staff to want to turn up the heat a little.

Dead on correct Cam!
We won that game because our deficient guards who have no business being on the floor with two McDonald's All Americans with all the hype....absolutely dominated them!
Plus, throw in the fact that Jessie had 3 fouls early and you get the picture.
That stat line against the almighty "quickest PG in America" make me chuckle.
Two open threes at the end...our deficient Jon Wallace drills it with onions the size of bowling balls while Ellington misses...as part of a nice team 2-24 stretch...

Well, ideally, Hoyasexy, we can generate more turnovers without losing too much on the FG% side...
But your point is completely right -- the Younger teaches great D, but it's a different D than his Dad.
