I know most of you hope that if we reach the finals, Florida will be waiting, in order to enable us to exact a measure of revenge for last season's narrow loss. I can perfectly well understand that sentiment.
However, for very personal reasons, I am hoping that we defeat TOSU and meet UCLA next Monday night.
I was a UCLA fan before I had ever heard of Georgetown, before even they began winning national championships. I recall during my freshman year, that UCLA held an open practice at McDonough (imagine that - amazing but true) in preparation for their Final Four appearance in 1969. I attended wearing my UCLA sweatshirt. I'm sure the players, led by Super Sidney Wicks and Curtis Rowe, didn't expect to see one of those in the District of Columbia.
Being the big Bruin rah-rah that I was, I was constantly asked by my buddies who I would support if the Hoyas ever met the Bruins in basketball. I replied that I would root for GU, but confidently added that there was no chance that such a game would ever occur and have any significance.
Now it's one game away. So close that I can almost feel it on my fingertips. I doubt that there was anyone in the United States happier than I was with the way this Final Four has shaped up (except that I guess I would have preferred that the other two teams be 16 seeds ;D). I still can't get over that this has actually occurred. If the Hoyas and Bruins can pull this off on Saturday, I probably won't sleep for the following two days.
