gentelmen (and ladies), here we are again. i haven't been around as much this week as i was belmont week because you don't need any information and it always gets a little more intense when it gets to this point in the tourney. i will say that i have ate, drank and slept gu basketball since sunday in preperation for today's game and the more i learn, the more impressed i am with your team, your players and your coach. and i'm not even talking about basketball (although it's impossible NOT to be impressed with the on court product).
camille powell was on local sports talk this morning previewing the game and she just confirmed everything i have learned. this team and this program under JTIII are easy to love because they do things the right way. good kids, good school, good coach. i love it. even your beat reporter was very likable!
the moral of the story is, for about 3 hours this afternoon i will hate georgetown with the white hot fire of 1000 suns, but that's just gametime mode. the fact remains that it is impossible not to like and respect this program after getting to know it even a little bit.
if the dores can't pull it out tonight you probably won't see me for a couple of days, i can honestly say i will be rooting for the hoyas the rest of the way. you're a class group and i wish y'all luck.
2 final thoughts:
a) our last sweet 16 (2004) we we're a 6 seed. played western mich in the first round in a game everyone picked the upset - we controlled the game from the tip. played nc state in the second and came back from a big 2nd half deficit to pull the upset in a thriller. played 2 seed uconn in the 3 round, got our hats handed to us and watched them roll to the NC. - take that for what it's worth.
b) after all of the research, gameplanning and preperation games like this always come down to heart. both these teams have it in spades so this should be a fun one to watch.
final analysis:
if gu and vu play this game 20 times, gu wins 13 and vu wins 7.
GO DORES!
