III has been expecting and hoping for his assistants to get head coaching jobs. He said that in an interview last year with Hoya Report . Its something I have mentioned before. He wants ALL of his current assistants to get head coaching jobs. This is not like his situation with his dad in which assistants stay for 20 years. He must have known something like this was coming sooner or later.
Good luck to Coach Broadus.

Let me add my sentiments of best wishes for Coach Broadus. I was just reading recently about Syracuse assistant coach Bernie Fine and how not taking a chance basically cost him a chance. Good for Coach that he's taking a chance.

Good luck to Broadus, and it'll be interesting to see whom JTIII comes up with, but the assistant coach news I'm eagerly awaiting is still a little over a year away, when Georgetown announces the hiring of JONATHAN WALLACE as the next member of JTIII's staff.
Tell me I'm wrong.

Congrats to Coach Broadus--and THANK YOU! He was a dominant recruiter--but this program is about development and III wants to develop Head Coaches out of his Assistants as well as player devleopment.
GUHitman on MDVarsity has mentioned the name Troy Weaver, have no idea if that has any credibility or not?

Is Weaver already out of the NBA?

Congrats and good luck to coach Broadus. One quality that certainly attracts recruits is winning and, thanks in part to coach Broadus, that's one thing we definitely have to offer.

Is Weaver already out of the NBA? No idea MCI--last I'd heard he was still with Utah Jazz, but might have been a while back. I'll throw a name out there for discussion--what would you say if Tommy Amaker wanted to be an Assistant Coach for the Hoyas? He's from the area, isn't a hot name on coaching circuit, and has proven to be a good Assistant Coach--some guys are better Assistants then Head Coaches. Just throwing it out there and not saying he'd be my top choice--but since he's available and in need of work--from area, and it's a trend you see with many programs--hiring former HC's to be an Assistant.

Tomy Amaker? Patrick Ewing?
I'd rather have a young up-and-coming assistant who knows the area and is going to recruit with the best of them and spend lots of time looking at film. I really just don't see either of those guys doing that in an assistant coach capacity for a college team. I really think this is a good spot for a former high school coach from the area who is an assistant in a lower conference or maybe a current high school coach. I'm also fairly sure that III has a list of contacts and he'll make a great decision when he has the time on his hands.

I feel like it will be -- especially if Sydney Johnson leaves -- someone with extensive Princeton Offense experience, bonus points for being a D.C. guy. Any obvious choices fit that description?
On edit, what about Darryl Prue? Works in the GU basketball office, helps out with practice, and sits on the bench on game day. Played at WVU, but must know the Princeton O by now.
If III is happy with his current contributions, seems like a logical choice.

Whoever replaces Broadus will probably be a recruiting specialist.

Broadus has been great for the Hoyas, and I hope he does well at Binghampton. He's been a huge asset on the recruiting front, but lets not forget it was recruits like Freeman who said having JTIII attend every game was what made his decision to join the Hoyas easier.
I'll can't wait to welcome future assistant coach Kevin Braswell back to the Hoyas!

Congrats to Coach Broadus. He'll be missed, but I am confident III will be able to recruit another outstanbnding young AC.
I also hope we pick up JW as AC when he graduates. He'll be a monumental coach one day.

Actually, it's not "official" - the story says "a source told CBS." Official announcement expected Monday. That said, congratulations to Coach Broadus. He will be hard to replace but I have confidence in the man doing the selection.

Binghamton is hopefully his first stop on the head coaching circuit and it makes perfect sense to get started on the 2 or 3 years he will need at wherever that first stop is before moving up the coaching ladder. I'm sure he appraised the situation, knows he can probably get some attractive kids for that program who he has seen play this year in his travels and figures he can make a big splash in the smaller pond and get started on putting together an attractive resume for the next step up. Good luck to him and many thanks for what he's done for GU and the players he has helped leave with us for the coming years.

Honest question for someone who knows more about high school coaches than me...
Does it pay better/is it more prestigious to be a head coach at a big time high school program, or to be an assistant at a major college program like Georgetown? I honestly have no idea. I know UMCP picked up Driesell a few months back, and he was the head coach at one of the WCAC schools.
Could we grab the guy from Montrose Christian (Vetter)? They are a very high profile high school program so it's probably a pretty good gig, but if we can land somebody from there that'd be good news, because that school is cranking out high major players left and right, and they have a ton of talent coming out over the next few years. Somebody who could help us get some of those players would be great. Otherwise, maybe someone with a lot of ties to DC Assault or the local AAU scene.
I feel like Broadus' replacement oughta be a top-level recruiter. If Johnson goes, we can try to find somebody to help with the X's and O's more, but to fill Broadus' spot we need somebody that can help III lock down area talent.

Ewing's name is being tossed around as a possibility for the job with the Bobcats. As a friend of MJ, this might not be the longshot that it otherwise might seem to be.
What about Jaren Jackson? He was on Esh's staff for a short time and had a reputation as a good recruiter (although I have no idea if he was at all instrumental in bringing Jeff or Roy). I remember hoping that he would be retained when JTIII took over.

Not sure what the pay differences are, but I'm guessing that someone like Vetter a) gets paid pretty well and b) is pretty happy being the Big Fish in the high school pond, and running his empire as he sees fit. To give that up to be a college assistant, he'd have to want to be a college coach and it doesn't seem like that's his thing.
