Sunday at 2:30?
Crud. If the Hoyas are fortunate enough to make it that far, I have a decision to make. I have to make a 6 hour drive that day. Either I have to leave very early, in time to get there for the game telecast (and I probably won't be able to check into my hotel yet!). Or I have to wait to leave until the game is over, which means I won't get there until very late (with an early morning wake up call the next day).
Crud.

you're kidding - Florida is the same time as us? And I'm in Florida - man that stinks. That means that out of 3 ncaa games, I'll have had access to only the first half of belmont and 2nd half of BC.
Even if I schlep 45 mins roundtrip to a bar - I'll get no sound on a small tv, b/c I'm sure they'll have Florida sound cranked and on the big screen.
CBS stinks - please have ESPN take over this tourney so we get more games on TV.

Those folks who were posting the coverage maps for CBS.... where di you get those? I've scoured cbssportsline.com and can't find them anywhere.
I'm pretty nervous that I'm going to get stuck with Florida.
Doesn't CBS own another cable channel, like USA or something? Why can't they show the other games on that network?
Makes no sense.

CBS stinks - please have ESPN take over this tourney so we get more games on TV. I can't get over all of the complaining about CBS. The fact is, when you don't live in the home market of the team you're cheering for, you have to be prepared to make some effort to see the game you want, either by watching it on your computer (FOR FREE BY THE WAY!!!), ordering the March Madness package on satellite, or going to a bar. Its just like any NFL game you've ever seen. I understand the complaints that all games should be available, but it has ALWAYS been done this way, and in any event some channels have made this concession. I think I mentioned earlier that for the second or third year in a row, the local CBS affiliate in Milwaukee made the feeds for all of the games not being shown locally available for free on alternate channels on Time Warner Cable. Anyway, I understand some people's frustration, and even with all of these options the first half of the BC/Gtown game was not available to many if not most of us. But such is life when you cheer for a team but don't live in their city. The answer is NEVER to have ESPN take over the coverage. This entire rant was prompted by that comment above. The idea of Dick Vitale turning the Final Four games into a broadcasted circus!?!? I get nauseous just thinking about it. Talk to your local affiliate and mention what other affiliates have done. Ask them to make the other games available for free on alternate channels.

The Sunday game time is, as of now, still TBD. The 2 Sunday tip times are 2:30(ish) and 5:00(ish). Like the game times for Friday, much will depend on who is actually playing on Sunday in determining game time (e.g. if USC wins Friday, the NCAA & CBS are likely to schedule the East Final for the 5pm slot, not 2:30).

I gotta agree with the Big Dog. Add to that the fact that while diehards love watching the Hoyas (or whatever team they follow) and want to see every minute of their team, most are also big fans of the sport in general, and want to see the exciting conclusions and monitor what's going on in other brackets. For the first weekend, I'd much rather just have one station show it all and really try to do a cohesive broadcast. I thought CBS did a good job of getting me to the action all day on Saturday, which was impressive given that every game had a good ending.
I will say that for the third round, it would be nice if they pressed a second station into service, since the games are (1) more important and (2) more likely to be closely fought throughout the contest. But CBS can handle that on its own. No need to ship the whole thing to ESPN!!!!!!

The complaining you are hearing isn't so much that CBS operates the way it has for so many years - it is just that in this case CBS essentially blacked out the game in markets where they said they were going to show it - blacked it out on network, on the computer, and over the satellite - you couldn't "make some effort to see the game" - there was no option. You couldn't get it on your regular TV like you were supposed to, you couldn't get it on the internet because you were supposed to get it on TV, and you couldn't get it in a bar that had Direct TV because the feed that had the game was being over-ridden by LVille-Texas A & M. Ironically the only place you could watch this game Saturday was in a town where it wasn't supposed to be shown - on a computer -and, I assume, Boston and Washington (but I don't know for sure about that.)
Vitale is awful, I agree.

But I can't fault CBS's decision. I'd have chosen to keep people with the close A&M/'Ville game too.

CBS & DirecTV just need an incentive to have more communication and flexibility on the satellite situation. Unfortunately, unless CBS is getting equivalent Nielsen credit (& ad $) for people watching on DirecTV, CBS has no incentive to adjust on the fly.

All I know is that the local CBS affiliate up here has a second station on the digital cable system, so I will get all 4 games Thursday and Friday - unless CBS cuts away from the Hoya telecast for 15-20 minutes to show Noah getting medical treatment for a hangnail.

I like the idea of ESPN solely because they could use their unbrella of networks to show uninterrupted converage of individual games whenever there is a conflict. As far as annnouncers go, I am not a big Dickie V. fan but Vern Lunkhead and Fudge Packer are just as bad if not worse. And I am beginning to think that Bill Rafferty (Raftery?) is drunk everytime he sits behind the microphone.

One more thing: as for the Sunday times, they won't be official until Friday at least. But the info that I have seen has CBS coverage lasting from 1:30 edt to 6pm edt. With just 2 games, I would expect something like 1:50 and 3:55 tipoffs but that is just a guess. I don't think any games will be starting much after 4pm.

I will give Raftery this much: he is definitely a colorful commentator.

You have it wrong, Hifi - Raf is drunk ALL of the time, not just while he is on the air!

Raftery gave the best description of Mike Sweetney of all time, likening him to a "dancing bear." One of his best lines ever. Wasn't that in a game up at Chestnut Hill?
