the fact they can shoot the 3 and do it often is a concern

"...and sometimes when that happens to us and we fall behind early, we start heaving threes as well."
I beg to differ. At least recently. We've been down a lot in our 14 of 15 streak due to hot first halfs behind the arc. We've been very good this year at coming back and coming back by not panicking and playing our game. Oddly enough, it seems we become chuck happy most when we're up a lot.

If we play perimeter D like we did against West Virginia and three of four halves versus Notre Dame this year, we will have nothing to worry about.

just stick patrick on the perimeter. he seems to block a 3 pointer per game.

Here's a little stat comparison with Belmont. All these are in-conference.
FG% Belmont 46.9% (T-1st) Georgetown 50.5% (1st)
FG% Defense Belmont 37.2% Georgetown 39.1%
Scoring Margin Belmont +11.9 Georgetown +9.8
Rebounding Margin Belmont +4.1 Georgetown +4.4
3-PT % Belmont 37.2% Georgetown 37.0%
3-Pt% Defense Belmont 25.5% Georgetown 31.2%
Turnover Margin Belmont -2.72 Georgetown -1.56
Isn't it obvious? Belmont is the Georgetown of the Atlantic Sun!!! I didn't realize until I dug these up how true they are to the "crappy Georgetown" description right down to the turnovers being underwater.
But wait there's more!
They have:
The tallest starter in the league (6'10) who leads the league in FG% (.669)!
A 6'2 guard who is the best three-point shooter in the league (.472)!
Belmont's coach Rick Byrd has an assistant named Thompson! JTIII has an assistant named Byrd! I'm lying now and I can't stop using exclamation points!!(!)
So here's my thought for everyone: I'm picking the Georgetown from the league with 6 tournament teams and multiple NBA players over the Georgetown from the league with three teams with an overall winning record.
And no, I don't think our team is losing focus at all. If they are, they're sure hiding it well.
Go Hoyas, beat the Atlantic Sun Hoyas!

Oh man - I don't like Jeff's quote in that AP story about not even knowing where Belmont is AT ALL. Sheesh. Just not a smart thing to say. I hope our players know that the last time we won the Big East in 1989 was also the year we came about as close as any #1 seed in tourney history to losing to a 16 seed. Take nothing for granted, guys.

Take nothing for granted, guys. I hope they know the last time we were seeded this high, we pasted a #15 seed by taking it to them early and matching the intensity of a less-talented opponent. Why use a negative example? Do these guys really seem cocky to anyone? I'd much rather someone tell them storm the doors and rip the next six games away from their opponents by having confidence than try to "motivate" them with almost losses 18 years ago.

So Belmont isn't on our radar for most of the season. I don't think it's necessarily bad that Jeff said that and it wound up in a news story. It's honest. The second they announced Belmont as our matchup I whipped out my computer to find out:
1. Where is Belmont? 2. How good are they?
I think if anything Jeff has only one of those two things on his mind (the more relevant one), and that's why he didn't know the answer to the other.

I don't think not knowing Belmont's location literally 20 minutes after the pairings were announced is taking anything for granted. He was honest. I find it refreshing.

There's a stop on the Chicago metra rail called Belmont, and I thought to myself "there's a D1 program that close to chicago that I don't know about?" Imagine my surprise then to learn that the end part of the Metro stop "Foggy Bottom-GWU" stood for a school with a D1 program too! I knew where Belmont is (what can I say, I grew up in Atlantic Sun country!), and actually I thought that was who we might be playing if we were a 2 seed. They really are similar to Georgetown if you go by those stats and some aspects of their strategy, so it'll be an interesting game to watch.

we have to adopt the same defensive philosophy we've used against wvu and nd. make them beat us off the dribble. i wouldn't be shocked if coach limits roys minutes, since the pace probably won't be to his liking. patrick is a much better option to switch on a guard off a high screen by their center. if the guys stay home on the shooters and we rebound, we'll crush this team.

I was thinking the same thing about Roy, which might mean he's both well rested and itching to dominate on Saturday. Here's hoping we can shut them down early, grab a good lead, and get some solid tournament playing time for Macklin & TC.

Roy plays his best when he's matched up on someone his size. I expect the Hoyas to come out looking to feed him the post early, since Belmont has a 6'10 guy who can "guard" him and they like to play man. Not to mention that Roy can keep up in an uptempo game (where we score in the high 60s-mid 70s)--his problem is more the really fast ones (at least for us) like Duke last year and ND in the BET. I doubt the tempo is going to be like that on Thursday.

If this team keeps attacking when up 20 with 2 minutes left, they won't have a mental let down. They are on a mission and belmont won't be a problem. If somehow we lose top belmont then it was never ever meant to be. But this is not the profile of a team that has a let down. If we do lose in the tourney, it will be to an average team that plays awesome (nova, cuse, nd, bc, ttech) or a great team (unc, texas, florida) that was just better than us that day.
Anyone scouting bc and ttech? Dudley at bc worries me and ttech beating tam and kansas worries me.
