Don't sleep on Belmont. They are good shooters; won more than 20 games; and will be playing a virtual home game. One step at a time. Next game is most important.

No, Belmont Abbey is outside Charlotte, Belmont is in Nashville. Thanks. And then how is this a virtual home game for them, if they are from Nashville and the game is in WS.

Belmont ranks 132 in Pomeroy.
Best win (135) Fordham or (161) Rice. Lost to Michigan State by 9. Lost to Illinois by 26, both on the road. Lost to a lot of crappy teams.
Decent FG defense and they shoot a lot of threes. Guard the three and we win.

I say one at a time, it's what got us here. Focus on Belmont, not on who comes after.

the only ooc games of any merit for belmont were at illinois (L 77-51) and at michigan state (L 67-58). they shoot a lot of 3's. our man to man will eat them alive.

Anyone have any idea about tickets?
If they win on Thursday, I'm going to W-S for Saturday's game. Need to see how much trouble it's going to be to get tickets.
Wish I could go on Thursday.

We'll have to look sharp, 'cause karma is not on our side. We directly benefited from the last 15-2 upset--Hampton over Iowa State.

Information on Belmont. Height/Weight/Names: www.belmontbruins.com/athletics/mensbasketball/mbbroster0607.htmInteresting that they have two 6'10 seniors who seem to be the focal point of their offense. I think we are a really bad draw for them in terms of already having tons of size at the PF and C spots. Haven't really found a message board for them or the Atlantic Sun conference yet.

As for past Belmont, if we win, I agree that Washington State is an awful #3 seed... but BC and Texas Tech are two teams that can beat us. Tech because they are well coached and BC because the game will degenerate into a slugfest like Villanova.
I'm not worried about Texas because UNC will take care of them, and anyway, that's the Elite Eight -- you're gonna play someone tough there.

Bilas, after a long diatribe from Digger Phelps about us 'sneaking up ' on teams:
"Oh, Georgetown is going to the Regional Final, there's no doubt about that. The only question is whether they play Texas or the Tar Heels".
After all the complaing about no love, I'm starting to get uncomfortable with everyone saying we have an easy draw.
GO HOYAS!!

For those of you in the area or who are going, what are your ticket strategies? I'm 95% going Thursday no matter what, 100% on Saturday, the question is how to get tix. The Heels being in Winston-Salem makes it very tough to count on tickets when you get there, I think. Bobby Knight will attract some folks. Even though they are far away, I imagine a school like Michigan State will bring some fans. I would think best case scenario is the Heels play in the afternoon session and the Hoyas are in the evening session. That way, could show up at the arena that afternoon and pick up evening session tickets from other fans, and Saturdays from the losers. But the presence of the Heels scares me and makes me think I should stubhub it. The cheapest session tix are $80. Anybody think going through EKY, MU, TT, BC, Belmont ticket offices is a viable option or will the scalpers clog the phone lines? The only time I've been to the 1st and 2nd round games was here in Greenville a while back. Tickets were very plentiful as the only close team was Duke.

I feel our draw is easier than the just-concluded Big East tournament, and that's what these analysts are probably feeling, too. I think BC and TT are both fine teams, but if we are to make any noise at all, these are the types of teams we simply must beat. Once we get past the first weekend, I'll start looking ahead to who else we might play, but in tourney like this, obsessing about second weekend teams doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I just checked Stub Hub, and tickets are available for all three sessions (Thursday day and evening, and Saturday) together, or any of the individual sessions.
I can only make Saturday (if we win on Thursday), so I will probably end up just ordering from Stub Hub. Unfortunately, only upper deck seats are available right now.
If anyone has better suggestions for getting tickets, I'm all ears.

Did Belmont used to be Belmont Abbey, Al McGuire's old school? No. It was Ward-Belmont College, a women's school. They've been co-ed for decades now. The Baptist college starting calling itself a university in the 1990s. They moved from NAIA to NCAA D-I, at the same time changing its nickname from Rebels to Bruins. Belmont's big rival is Lipscomb University, which is just down Belmont Boulevard. Their rivalry is called "The Battle of the Boulevard."
