Please know I am NOT trying to bring politics onto the board but thought it was interesting/funny to read the Final Four predictions of one William J. Clinton (SFS '68). Seems the Hoyas are not on his radar - someone needs to send him a JT3 t-shirt! (and a highlight tape of the season) From the Long Beach Press Telegram: www.presstelegram.com/news/ci_5372490The man who only moments earlier had been discussing the dangers of global warming and the need to help the impoverished and sick around the world suddenly turned to a slightly less important subject without any hesitation. "Who do you think is going to win the Final Four?" he asked. "Florida," I replied. "Who do you think is going to win?" " I kind of like North Carolina, although the Tar Heels haven't done well in recent weeks," he responded. "I also think Kansas is a serious threat. And you have to give Ohio State and Wisconsin a chance. And I'm sure Florida could still put it all together." "How do you know so much about college basketball?" I wondered. "Oh, I watch the games all the time late at night when I finish up writing on my latest book," he said. "I love the sport. Eddie Sutton (one-time Arkansas coach) long has been a close buddy of mine."

At least he's not actively rooting against us (yet), as he did in the 1994 tournament.

Yes, but Clinton's no dummy -- he's giving a shout out to certain key swing states .

Having worked for the guy for eight years, I can tell you that Hoyatable has got it exactly right. This is about politics, and the DC votes are already a lock.
But I will tell you one thing for sure, Clinton has his eyes on the Hoyas and he knows exactly what they are doing.
I remember back when Arkansas was on the rise he used to refer to the Razorbacks as his top team, but Thompson as his coach. You gotta respect the political skills.

Now that I'm old enough to realize that his pragmatism made him a great President, I respect the guy. But pragmatism is not the essential quality of a good fan. Bill Clinton should be a Hoya fan, regardless to whom he is pandering.

Wow! Clinton was really going out on a limb with those picks. Any dolt who has watched ESPN in the past week could have said that! What a slurp job by the guy doing the interview!
"How do you know so much about college basketball?" Come On!

If I am ever elected Governor of New Jersey, I can assure you that I will not begin rooting against the Hoyas; especially if I have been subsequently elected President and am living walking distance from MCI.

I love Slick Willy, but come on people, he has no idea what he's talking about.
Asking "Who do you think will win the Final Four?" is a dead giveaway of someone who wants to be considered a sports fan, but who has only the most superficial knowledge. You don't win the Final Four. You win the NCAA championship.
That's right up there with calling a basketball game a "match," or giving the score by quoting the losing team's points first

Gotta love the company he keeps--Eddie Sutton. Yuck.
The man reeks of authenticity.
No one with a resume showing activity with undergraduate student politics has ever gotten a call back interview from me.

A fellow Hoya who worked on this inside of the White House during the Clinton era told me there was always a "How can we help Georgetown?" time at monthly meetings. It wasn't always a very long discussion, but from what I heard it was a standard part of the agenda. Apparently O'Donovan would show up on occasion. Good to see Clinton giving us love that way, but it would be nice to get more of a response from him overall. Maybe he's just trying to keep the spotlight off of us? You know, deflect NBA scouts, etc.

By the way, has anybody seen George Tenet at any games lately? He was a fixture from 2000-02.
[Unless, of course, metaphor=George Tenet!]

i am a subscriber to the Press Telegram and the writer who asked the question is actually a sports writer, not a good one.
as a side note, this was a Boys & Girls Club fundraiser, charges $1000 a plate for 200 people to attend, sounds great, Clubs need all the money they can get, but then you see buried in the story that he charged $150,000 plus expenses to attend. WOW. some charitable afternoon. i know he needs to make his money and everyone wants a piece of someone like him but for such a worthy cause and one he claims to have a personal connection with, i would think more along the lines of $20k would have been more than enough. even when he appears to be doing something good he never ceases to make me sick.
