Well not quite 1972 ... Doc was at Marquette in the early 1980s, he left in '83 for the NBA and eventually graduated in '85. Got his bachelor's in Terrible Coaching if I'm not mistaken. Marquette must have a really strong undergrad program if all he has is a Bachelor's degree. Often reaching the pinnacle of one's profession requires a Master's or Ph.D.

I'll give him this, though - the Lakeland/Winter Park area is a great place to live, especially if you have $$$.

Another shout-out by Doc on WEEI AM this morning - he did his weekly call in sitting on the plane waiting to go down to NYC. He again praised the Hoyas, after which Gerry Callahan (the acerbic right-wing sportswriter of the radio team) made a crack about how Pat Ewing couldn't have really done as much schoolwork as regular students there. Doc interrupted him and said, "Well Jeremiah tells me it's pretty hard and he has a lot of work" and then added that he (Doc) thought that was a good thing (typical parent).

I enjoyed the shots of Doc today with Bilas and Raf saying he was also there to scout Green and Hibbert for the C's, as if there is even a 5% chance he will still be coaching the team by then.

Wouldn't Doc have been fired by now if that were what the Celts had in mind? I mean the team can't get any lower than they were earlier this year, so doesn't it seem like they may let him try coaching Oden/Durant/Brandon Wright for a season before letting him become a full-time Hoyas fan?

Have a heart guys. I'm (kind of a knicks man (because of Patrick, so that is not strong anymore)), but didn't the C's have a bunch of injuries this year, including to their best player? They're playing with a short hand, and they know it up there. DOC has proved he's a good coach already, even before he got up there. Be nice to our Hoya's relatives...

In case it seems like otherwise, I was merely speculating as to whether he would be the coach next year. I mean no disrespect to Doc who, at the very least, seems like a great guy.

As much as the results may speak to coaching ability, the injuries in Boston HAVE been horrendous and Doc is a very good friend of Mr. Ainge. Stranger things would have happened than to have him continue as coach.

See Knicks, New York and Thomas, Isaiah.

I'm going to guess that you haven't seen many Celtics games this year. There was a stretch this year in which the Celtics went 3-29 in the worst Eastern Conference in memory. Give Marty Mornhinweg the Celtics roster and you probably would have gotten 5 or 6 wins over that stretch. Doc's a media darling, seems like a nice guy, but he doesn't know an "X" from an "O".[/i]No, I haven't seen a single Celtics game this year, but fair is fair. Doc's been a decent coach in the NBA. His Orlando teams were competitive, going to the playoffs every full season he coached, except his first year when, ironically, he was named NBA coach of the year. And didn't he guide the C's to the playoffs his first season there? As Isaac Hayes would say, I don't think we should indulge in hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic phrases when talking about fotps ....
