He ends his appearance with "I'd just like to say 'Go Hoyas!' You picked the right team, Tony. They're going to win the national championship this year."

Not sure how proud he was, didn't he take a lot of verbal abuse from the Marquette community for being involved in an interracial relationship with his future wife/Jeremiah's mother? I thought I remembered hearing that somewhere, and that he didn't have very much love for the MU community as a result, which was why they were never really in the picture for Jeremiah. Maybe I don't have that totally correct but I know I've heard some things to that effect.

However, now that I have, your response strikes me as one of the reasons I sometimes hate message boards. According to this: www.marquette.edu/omc/newsroom/news/prRappeRivers121305.shtml, Rivers was named to the board of trustees. “As an alumnus, Marquette has given me the foundation for my career and I look forward to being able to give back as a member of the Board of Trustees,” said Rivers. That doesn't sound like somebody with an axe to grind with the school, and it occurred in December of 2005, which would have been right around the time Rivers was making his college decision.

Sounds like the original poster wasn't too far off base, though. www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2006/10/01/family_doc/

Thanks for that article, Saxa - I was looking for it but could not find it. I think the problems were obviously much more troublesome in San Antonio than they were in Milwaukee.

That is a good article. But how is this for coincidence? My wife's name is Kris, my daughter's name is Callie (Caroline but we call her that for short), and my mother-in-law's name is Ginger. I did not name my son Jerimiah but all of sudden I feel like I'm living in a parrallel universe, outside of the fact that I did not play professional basketball and I'm not an NBA coach.

Doc isn't either, he just plays one on TV.

Edited: I should have paid more attention to the article. Regardless, if he's on the BoD, I'm guessing he's over whatever issues he had with the school.
