After countless hours of brainstorming, I have finally come up with a nickname for Jeff Green. No matter what you think at first, let it sit. This is the all-inclusive, all-expense paid nickname... Jeff "The Butler" Green
Why? Well, the intial inspiration came from The Butler's first name: Jeff. Jeff, short for Jeffery, is the name of the butler on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Jeffery is not your ordinary butler. He has his own style and is very good at what he does. He has an edge to himself but nothing to flashy. Besides the name, The Butler and the butler also share a common lifestyle trend: they do want to want. Jeff Green does what he wants on the court. He can shoot, pass, dribble, and play defense. He can match up against anyone and do anything. Jeffery, as a butler, is forced to take orders from others, but that does not mean he listens. Let's start calling Jeff this great nickname and have a Fresh Prince-themed party in Atlanta... Jeff "The Butler" Green He does what he wants

Jeff can't be the butler because he owns it

I take it you are a direct descendent of those clever classicists who arrived at hoya saxa as a nickname. If you find someone willing to give you a half hour to hear the explanation of the "butler", you can move directly to talking about stone walls.
Some may view moving from Greek and Latin to the Fresh Prince for our referent as regression, but that would not be me.

That's the worst idea I've ever heard in my life.
Yes, this is horrible, this idea.

How about Jeff "Fedex Kinkos" Green, since he does everything for you?

I loved calling him "The Predator" back when he was a freshman: The hair + his ability to do everything + his quiet yet effective presence. Man how I wish he still had that hair. Imagine how amazing he'd be if he still had it.

I used to call him predator too. He needs his hair back, he looked much tougher.

Great players have three kinds of nicknames, which always incorporate what they're named or who they are: (1) none at all: Joe Montana, Steve Young, Kareem Abdul-Jabaar (2) something that incorporates either their surname or given name or both, plus something simple: Magic Johnson, Air Jordan, Broadway Joe, Shoeless Joe, Pistol Pete (3) "the" something: The Mailman, The Birdman (I guess that's a combo of (2) and (3)), The Great One This theory, like any, has its exceptions. That said, I think Jeff's game is such that he eludes (2) or (3). He can do it all - "Mr Everything"; he is understated - "Mr Cool," "The Ice-Man"; his name is Green - "Mean Jeff Green," "Lean Jeff Green"; he's good in the clutch - "Mr Clutch" ... it's just that none of those seem to have that "of COURSE that's what he should be called" thing that most nicknames have. Relatedly, this line of thinking is leading me to a new idea: that Jeff Green is "Mr" something. Or maybe it's that a nickname is an organic thing, a natural process, something that comes up when it's ready to. Maybe Jeff isn't ready for his nickname yet. Not that I have anything against Greek, Latin, or Fresh Prince references as nicknames

I can see The Butler if his first name were Jeeves, but given that it is Jeff, we cannot have that nickname.

The part of Jeff's game that's impressed me recently is that he has decided to take the team on his back and will them to win games. Maybe "Atlas" - but that's too Greek and the team is too balanced.
The one I really like is Bluto (or D-Day). The game isn't over until Jeff decides it is.
Anyway, people had better hurry up on this thread. We have ten games until this becomes the Milwaukee Bucks' problem.

Ack!! I just choked on my drink!! Don't say that!!
Perhaps the search for Jeff's nickname is more important than the nickname itself ....

Sorry, but "the Butler" is horrible. It brings about visions of servitude, complacency, subservience. Not images that engendger fear . . .
"Yeah, but I mean Jeffrey . . . you know the butler in the Fresh Prince? Not butlers in general, just Jeffrey the butler!"
Maybe we could start calling Jon Wallace "Uncle Phil".
No need for a nickname.

More importantly the butler from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's name was Geoffrey not Jeffrey. That is why Will Smith always referred to him as "G"
