Not well coached tonite, gave them exactly what they needed - open three after three after three after three. Not a smart team at all this game.

Not true. They started hitting crazy threes. They were just sick in the 2nd half.

We looked petrified in the Dome tonight. Shameful performance.
Wallace played as bad as Rivers normally does. Rivers was even worse than that. ALL he does is throw the ball to an open guy, who is usually about 5 feet away from even the three point lane. What good is that? He can't shoot the three, can't make the tough pass....worthless.

If I was a coach that was going to play us I would get this tape and watch it over and over again and then would be very confident in getting the W against the Hoyas.

Sorry hchoya, as much as we all hate those bastards from upsate NY, nobody can coach that defense like the whiner. We didn't shoot well, and we paid for it. I hope everyone gets this tape and TRIES to run that D, because we'd kill 'em.

Rivers hating has got to stop. Rivers continues to provide exactly what is expected of him at this point. Don't forget that Rivers hit the 3 to close the 1st half and keep the Hoyas close.
This game started slipping away when that Ratfaced-kid hit his second 3 early in the 2d half.

We have faced zones all year and won quite a few games. Tonight we were wiped out, they hit shots that had nothing to do with our defense. Hopefully we internalize this one and come out fired up on Saturday. Perhaps a renewed sense of vulnerability will be spawned and guess us going again.

If you say Rivers had a bad game, consider this:
Wallace guarded Devendorf for most of the first half and got lit up.
Rivers guarded Devendorf for most of the second half and held him in check for the most part.
So please don't say JR didn't do anything. His offensive game might be far from contributory, but at least he gave us something on the defensive end.

Rivers actually had one of his better games as a Hoya. One of the only players on our team who could hit a 3-pointer and he played excellent defense, getting some sick rebounds. I am always surprised at how high he jumps. He played with a lot of heart.

Truth be told, I saw little of our normal weakness on the perimeter...leaving the weak-side shooter unguarded. Sure the 3-D was poor on the whole, but SUcks made a lot of shots with hands in the shooter's face. Those shots do not normally go in, but they did tonight. Bummer for us.
Rivers=not even close to the problem.

Rivers made more 3's than Jesse tonight-- and he took 7 fewer. As anyone who was around me in December/January can attest, I was a little hard on Jeremiah. Mea Culpa. The kid is a solid player and a contributing member of the team. His defensive rebounding and his new found 3 point stroke will come in handy in the next 5 weeks.

Actually, the 3-pt defense did not look all that bad. Almost every time I said "how could they leave that guy open", the replay showed someone in pretty good defensive position (except for perhaps 3). SU was only 9-21 from three, so they were not crazy good. The guy the Hoyas did not keep close enough tabs on was Rautins.
The story of this game was the Hoyas' awful shooting.
Agree about Rivers - he is a solid player, and extremely important if this team is to make a deep postseason run.

How can you say we played poor 3 defense? Rautins was shooting NBA range one's off of catch and shoot picks all night and Nichols was throwing up circus shots that had no business being anywhere even near the backboard. It was those ridiculous three's and our own inability to make any during tonight's game that were the back breakers and made the score seem way worse.

Agree that our 3 point defense didn't look all that bad. They made crazy shots tonight.
It was just the perfect storm. Guys were tired after a long trip in bad weather. Senior night at SU and they really needed a signature win. If we meet at the BET we will blow them out of MSG. The memory of last year's loss still haunts me and I cant wait to get back at them.

Most of Cuse's threes were either 3 point range or with a hand in their face.

Agreed, perfect storm. How could anyone be critical of Baby Doc, his defense and rebounding alone is worthy of significant praise. His jump shot is looking better and better.

Take a breath people. Everyone said the same thing after the 1st Nova game. "All anyone needs to do is press us and we'll lose"...well coach figured it out and we won 11 in a row.
It's not easy to just say every team is just going to play zone and we're done. Cuse plays the best zone defense in the country. That's all they do. it's not easy to have zero prep time for senior night on the road.
Life goes on. III is a great coach and if another team tries to "mimic" what Cuse did we'll be ready.
Everyone take a deep breath and let's get ready for UCONN and get the #1 seed.

Anyone who chalks this up to bad coaching really needs to reexamine the tapes. Syracuse shot extremely well from three in spite of pretty good defense, and we shot WAY worse than usual. But that wasn't all that unpredictable: We were coming off a huge win on Saturday and were probably a little spent emotionally, had a big win streak to worry about, had to fly up to Syracuse on what was probably a pretty bad time to fly, and had to face a Syracuse team desperate for a win and celebrating senior night.
Sometimes I wonder if the massive overreactors on this board post just to aggravate rational people.
