Surely to be an unpopular post, but I've always been a cautious optimist with this team...
We need to show up tonight from the opening whistle or Hoya fans around the nation are going to be shaking their heads around 8:45 wondering how we could possibly be in a hole to the last place team in our conference.
Let's get it done.

Not me, either. I'm having Louisville flashbacks.

I'm there with you, Boston. But having been at the Hilltop during the early 2000s, I always feel that way about every game.

Heck, I was at that stupid game...and no.
Honestly, when was the last time this year's team didn't show up for a game?

I'm having flaskbacks to our earlier game against Cincy...but that's about it.

Besides the fact that both teams are/were in last place, I don't really see the connection.
USF was a team that played us closely the first time around. Cincy is not. USF was the last game of the year, a game we absolutely needed to win if we wanted a first round BET bye. UC is not.
It does remind me, though, of the Notre Dame, Louisville, & Marquette games in that they could maybe be trap games if the team isn't focused that night. How did those games turn out for us?

The only problem is that they left after the halftime whistle. This team is so good that any game (other than PITT-stain, I guess) can be considered a trap game. I think it's always good to be cautious, especially for those of us who were at GU during the Fist-of-Death Era, but this team has earned my faith that it'll show up to the arena every night.

The main difference is that this team is superior to last year's and far more consistent. Also, as desperate as they might be, Cincy won't carry with it the same desperation that USF had knowing it was their final chance for a first Big East win last season.
I'm not saying it can't happen that we get upset, and Cincy can be a tricky place to play (when was the last time the Hoyas played there?), but Pomeroy has been right on the money with everything lately (Marquette's skid, our winning streak, MSU over Wisconsin last night, Indiana over Wisconsin last month, etc.), and he gives us a 92% chance of winning. I'd say that's about right.

We've got a streak of eight covers and one push going (http://www.covers.com/articles/articles.aspx?theArt=130551&t=0). Cincy was the only push. Let's see if they can match it tonight.

Vegas has been off on us this year...thank goodness. Maybe coming around now, but I still think they struggle with how to place us.
This seems fair. We won by 15 the last time and you get 4 points for being the home team.
GO Hoyas! Keep covering!

I understand the guarded optimism, you cant help but feel that way when you are dealing with college athletes. They are, after all, still maturing and can slip up and lose focus from time to time.
That said, I dont see too many parallels with USF. USF was/is a developing program, that had never won a BE game, that was playing their last game at home for the season. UC is a once mighty program, that is already won this year and that probably doesnt care too much about being 2-10 vs 1-11. I think if we jump out early, UC and their fans probably wont care too much about being "in" this game.
