Unfortunately for DaJuan, there's no way he wins this award. Not because he isn't deserving of consideration - he certainly is - but because people are going to look at his role on the team and discount his contributions (at least somewhat) as a by-product of playing alongside Jeff and Roy... two Big East P.O.Y. candidates.
On top of that, add to the mix the fact these awards are so hype-heavy (Rudy Gay / Jeff Green anyone?), the odds of DaJuan winning aren't that favorable.
So to all that I say, f'em DaJuan. Go out there and rip off a few double-doubles to end the season, help the team win the BET, and make a run into late March and the rest of 'em can take their meaningless awards and suck a lemon. You'll have the hardware that really matters.

I kind of agree, except it would be tough not to vote for him if we win the BE regular season and the BET and he is a consistent 10+ ppg contributor through the run.

I think he makes first team, but doesn't get Freshman of the year. Which is fine, that's what I predicted early in the year. He's got as much game as any freshman in the conference... he probably won't get the award because his stats won't stack up favorably against some others, but that's not really that important I don't think.
Ask yourself this: Forgetting about team continuity, is there any freshman in the Big East that you'd be willing to trade DaJuan for? The answer is no for me.
I think Reynolds probably takes it, but I hope we hurt his case this Saturday. I'd also like to point out that for the second year in a row, the near unanimous choice for freshman of the year from Syracuse isn't going to win the award. Don't buy the hype. Next year everybody will probably be picking Donte Greene. Maybe one of these years their guy will get it. But its a good example of being wary of preseason hype.

I think it would be hard for DaJuan not to get it if that is the case.. however, if Scottie Reynolds continues to play well and Nova chalks up a couple of big wins and performs well in the BET (getting them into the Big Dance) - it would be IMPOSSIBLE not to give it to him. He has more of an impact on his team than DaJuan does on the Hoyas (although I do think DaJuan's impact on the team is understated - not on these boards - just from other outlets)

It'll be real easy not to vote for him. Jeff and Roy would likely, in that scenario, be putting up pretty big numbers and getting all the press. There will be a big push to get them both first team and maybe POY, and Dajuan will get lost in the media wash. Whereas if Villanova makes a run, Reynolds will likely be the focus unless someone else blows up. Of course, if DaJuan goes Victor Page, I agree with you.

I emailed this guy yesterday. Criticizing DaJuan for his rebounding numbers isn't exactly fair.
First of all the much fewer possessions per game limits the amount of opportunities for rebounds. Then there is the fact that the Hoyas are the second-best shooting team in the nation which further limits offensive rebounding opportunities. And of course he's competeing against Green and Hibbert and only playing 24 minutes per game.

Right, MCI. He may be 6'8", but he's playing SF on a team with two very good rebounders.
He does well on the offensive boards; statistically, it is the defensive rebounding where he's not getting the numbers. But that's okay. One, the Hoyas are a good D rebounding team, and D rebounding is more of a team state -- that is, on most teams, a lot of the D rebounds are discretionary.
When a shot goes up and there's no opponent around, most teams let their center or big guy get, whereas if the players fought for it every time, the center wouldn't always get it.
That's partially why DaJuan has an awful D rebounding rate of 8.8%, but a pretty good offensive rate.
That said, he doesn't seem to be a great rebounder.

Reynolds has been playing poorly as of late. he's lost his shooting touch. I can totally see dajuan sneak in and win this awardif we win out and he averages around ten points per game through the run.

They spelled Derrick Caracter's name wrong. That's pretty spent.
