James and Mcneal
17pts 7rebs 4assts 5tos 1stl 7-30 FG 1-11 3-pt
Wallace and Sapp
19pts 9rebs 8assts 3tos 2stls 6-15 FG 2-7 3-pt
So just for the record, that would be a clean sweep in those slightly important 7 categories for our "dreadfully inferior" starting backcourt.

Yeah, but McNeal had some unfair fouls called on him and Matthews is sick so that made those guys play worse and James has an ingrown toenail on his left pinky toe and there was a glare coming off the heads of all the Hoya old-timers that were there for the gala and........
Feel free to add to the excuses that would come from the "Warrior" fans!!!
The truth is, our guards have stepped it up this year and are able to hold their own with just about any team out there.

I agree the fouls were legit.....I doubt you'll hear the same from Marquette fans, at least based on what I saw on their message board! Maybe deinertowade will enlighten us later on......

Sapp and Wallace definitely played good games and I was proud they basically stayed out of foul trouble (despite bad calls against Sapp). I think JTIII was trying to protect them by playing a zone most of the game. I love them both but neither are really great man-on-man defenders.
We will be in a little more trouble when we play teams like Pitt that have excellent combo-type guards. Maybe Crawford or Ewing will need to get some more minutes for defensive purposes in those games, but then we lose some scoring probably. This is really nit-picking, but when we are in the Final 8 we will need to address this somehow!

I thought maybe 2-3 of the fouls should have been non-calls but c'mon, does it really matter? That was a dominating second half performance by Roy and Green, with some nice baskets sprinkled in from Summers, Wallace, Sapp etc. That back door pass from Sapp to Green for the "and 1" reverse was very pretty. This team has hit its stride, let's just keep it up and try and avoid a letdown Monday. Belein is an excellent coach and WVU always gives us fits.

Part of being a superior coach is putting your players in a position to cover up their shortcoming and thus allow them to thrive.
A great off-the-dribble guard is slowed down via a zone D

James has the worst shot selection of any player I have ever seen. He was completely out of control. His drives were so ill-advised that they occasionally worked by drawing two or three defenders to go for the block. James was able to adjust his shot to avoid the block and his teammates were in position for a few put-backs.
