Something JT3 was quoted as saying that reminded me a lot of a "process over results" mantra that (if I recall correctly) a former favorite "love-to-hate poster" on this board, doseofreality (is he/she still around?) often made reference to: "I would not be here if I didn't think it was possible to win another national championship at Georgetown," says Thompson. "But that's big-picture thinking and a long-term goal. I'm more of a process guy. My job is to work as hard as I can to improve this team and this program every single day. If I do that, I have confidence that positive results will follow."washingtontimes.com/sports/20041116-122224-2990r.htm

It's a bit like saying "we just take things one game at a time." Sportswriters roll their eyes at the cliche, but guess what? It's exactly the way a focused athlete or coach HAS to approach things to be successful.

As a Pats fan, I often joke with my friends about the cult of Belichick.
We joke about how when Pats show up at training camp they are told they no longer have names, but must refer to each other as "brother."
They are not allowed to use the future or past tense, but must consider and react to only things in the present.
When asked any question they are conditioned to respond "We just go out, prepare and play hard...we can do better" over and over...
Whatever, Belichick maybe an cold-blooded cyborg devoid of human emotion that was sent back from the future to find the future leader of the human revolution and snuff him out before he's able to lead us to salvation...and that scares me...but I'll take the superbowls in the meantime. Woo Hoo!
However, my point is, although I tend to mock it, that obsessive "work ethic first" attitude wins. Focus on the immeadiate, work hard, get better, don't worry about anything but the team.
I love the fact that JTIII seems to be saying a lot of the same things. Let's hope he can get his hands on some of the koolade that Belichick uses to indoctrinate his players, because that type of system only works when everyone buys in....
Let's go Hoyas!!! Beat Temple!!! I'm so excited.

As MCI said (I can't remember if it was on this board or Hoya Report), if you're in the DC area, be sure to pick up a copy of the Washington Times, as there's a full-page GU/Big East preview in addition to the JTIII story, and none of that info makes it to their web page.
I'll try to do a quick recap of it later, but I'm on the run right now.

I typically boycott the right wing Times as it is too much to handle but I will make an exception this time. I'll grab the sports section and ditch everything else in the recycling bin.

From the WaTimes preview page (I'll post as I have time):
Georgetown: Keys to Winning
1. Frosh Big Men. Georgeton's hopes in the post rests with three players -- 6-foot-8 Jeff Green, 6-9 Cornelio Guibunda and 7-2 Roy Hibbert -- making their collegiate debuts this season. The trio's first order of business is to reclaim the glass. The Hoyas were outrebounded by an average of five boards a game in Big East Play last season.
2. Do it, Darrel. Senior swingman Darrel Owens has shown glimpses of brilliance. This year he'll be asked to bring it nightly and increase his 8.1 point and 3.7 rebound average. Owerns, who made 43.7% of his 3-point attempts last season, needs to become Georgetown's second option after forward Brandon Bowman.
