I know the big question in everyone's mind is, "Who is this year's Florida?" (and we're all hoping the answer is GU!), but since everyone loves a train-wreck, I'm more interested in finding out who this year's WG is. Which highly ranked team has gotten there on weak competition and is going nowhere in the NCAAs? The crop seems ripe this year, with Memphis, Butler, Air Force, and Nevada all representing mid-majors in the AP top-15 currently.
Personally, I think Memphis is set up perfectly for a big fall in the Tourney. They are way too highly ranked in my opinion, with losses coming to Georgia Tech, Tennessee, and Arizona...all of which are good programs, sure, but these are the type of games the #7 team in the country should win. Their only notable win was early in the year a weak Kentucky team, and their recent W streak has been against a weak conference. Sounds a lot like the formula that made a certain Waitlist overrated last year.

I do not think you can lump AF into this just simply because they are not in a Power Conference. Here is a list of the Fightin Falcons non-conference victories GW, Stanford, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, Colorado. All of these victories were by 15+ points.

Ohhhhhhhh, GW? Is there a joke associated with flipping the initials around? I'm all for jokes on GW.

Ohhhhhhhh, GW? Is there a joke associated with flipping the initials around? I'm all for jokes on GW. During a game at MCI last season, a few members of the "Colonial Army" (which has about as many soldiers as Switzerland's) tried to "invade" a Hoya game and cause a stir. One particular Foggy Bottom "scholar" was spotted with "GW" painted on the side of his/her face. But upon closer inspection, the person obviously applied the logo while looking in the mirror, resulting in "WG" as opposed to "GW."

My nominations for "Best College Basketball Team in the Role of WG":
1. Memphis 2. Nevada
An argument can be made for both teams to support their current respective rankings, but would anyone be shocked if either lost in the first round of the tourney to Withrop (19-4) or Long Beach State (15-6) or some such team?

Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Funny jokes. Thanks BuffaloHoya.
Remember those GW kids that made "Edited Georgetown" t-shirts a couple years ago. Those were pretty funny. I like the parallels between the Georgetown-GW "rivalry" and the Lakers-Clippers rivalry. The Lakers simply don't think about the Clips or their fans. They don't worry about them, they don't care what happens to the Clippers. To the Lakers and their fans, the biggest rivals are the teams that they have competed most fiercely against for championships - the Celtics of the '80s, the Bulls of the early '90s and any number of Western Conference opponents since.
The Clippers fans hate Lakers fans. They think Lakers fans are smug and superior. They consider the Lakers their biggest rivals and can't wait to smash their faces in. They try to create a rivalry, but since it's one sided (in that the Lakers are a superior franchise, and in that the Lakers fans don't give a about the Clips) the rivalry never comes to fruition.
GW = the LA Clippers. GW students can try and make me care about them by hurling insults, but I never will. (So maybe they're right about us being smug and superior).

Its gotta be Nevada. They are not even the best team in Nevada (UNLV came to their place and left with a 9 point victory).
They are 2-0 against Hawaii having outscored them by 3 points this season. They are going to bounced from the tournament really quickly.
I think Memphis is legit. They may not have the toughest schedule but they light up lesser teams. They beat Cinn by 33 points! Nevada lets these garbage teams hang with them most of the game.

i agree with nathanhm. Nevada blows i never pick them in my ncaa bracket and they never disappoint me even when they were a 5 seed last year i was like nope they still suck and are going to loose. the same thing will happen this year. bounced in the first round by a lower seeded team.

Now I know that they just had a big "Rivalry Week" win over Syracuse and that they are certainly primed to make a second half run at the (Big East) Tourney, but remember this was a team ranked in the top 20 to start the season. The best part about it is that unlike a team like WG, who loses once and their chest-pounding "we're #6" chants suddenly stop, we get to watch this train wreck over the course of the season. My heart warms each time espn shows the bottom of the Big East standings.

MD-Duke is also analogous if you're talking about a "rivalry" that only one side to a large extent considers a rivarly.

Hoyas need to exact some serious revenge. Wouldn't mind seeing Oregon either -- Ernie Kent talked some serious trash about our win over them 2 years ago and their win this year.

Reminds me of the one-sided rivalry between Baltimore and Washington. Washingtonians just don't care.

It's a little bit different situation, but I'd say Clemson. They were the undefeated team that got up to the top fifteen. Everyone just knew they weren't very good, but since they were undefeated they kept rising.
