I will be so happy when the Super Bowl is over. Sports coverage can then focus on where it should be - College basketball!

Speaking of which - do any of the older-timers remember a really big Hoyas game in the 80s(?) on Superbowl Sunday, or am I getting confused with a Knicks game with Ewing?

I think I do vaguely remember there being a big GU game on a Super Bowl Sunday......I couldn't tell you any details, but you mentioning it did shake some cobwebs loose. After looking at hoyabasketball.com, the only thing I can find is a possibility. In the 1982-1983 season, DFW's site has the Hoyas playing two BE games on the 1/29, against Seton Hall and then BC. The Super Bowl was on 1/30 that year, so if one of those was supposed to be listed as 1/30, then they did play on Super Bowl Sunday. www.superbowl.com/history/boxscores

Hoyas (Reggie and the Miracles) beat Depaul at the Cap Center in 1987. I think Depaul was #1 in the country at the time.

I seem to remember that being mentioned after the Duke win last season or while the game was going on - maybe as the last win over #1? The history project lists Depaul as being #6 at the time. Every article I read after the Duke game said that the Sweater Game in 1985 was the last time the Hoyas beat a team ranked #1

Hoyas (Reggie and the Miracles) beat Depaul at the Cap Center in 1987. I think Depaul was #1 in the country at the time. This DePaul game was played on Super Sunday, 1/25/87. Per DFW's GU history page, however, the Blue Demons were "only" ranked #6 at the time.

Last year the Pitt game was on Super Bowl Sunday. Several Pitt fans came decked out in Steelers gear, which prompted several "Let's Go Seahawks" chants from the student section.

Duke loses to FSU again by 1. The 'Noles just seem to have their number for some reason.
