Love Bubbachuck and all, but this is a complete travesty. And almost had McGrady, too. I think that would have been the death knell to fan voting.

It's not a death knell to fan voting, because it is the All-Star game. The fans want to see Bubbachuck and apparently like McGrady as well.
I realize the media and some fans view AS Game appearances as a key validation of "goodness" but it is just an exhibition for the fans.

Can anyone think of a team that might have a streak close to this. I checked out UNC and they don't. I don't think anyone can touch this streak. Which is impressive no matter how you view all star voting.

You basically need Top 50/100 All-Time players in sequence. UNC had Jordan but he took a break. But with most of the top NBA players right now of the one and done variety, it's tougher until we get more 1 year players.
Wake is going to be a long time -- starting with Duncan and now continuing with Paul. It's very similar to what we had -- Ewing, then Iverson.

1) Is this the longest "grab back" to revive a thread in board history - almost 3 years?
2) If AI has one big game left in him, this is the perfect venue for him to break it out. No defense required - plenty of wild ass passes to intercept.

I hate all the comments about how fan voting is so awful. A player's skill is only a part (and maybe even a small part) of what makes him a star. Just like the biggest movie stars aren't necessarily the most talented actors (Kevin Costner, the Rock, Adam Sandler and Ahnold come to mind), the most appealing players aren't necessarily the best players. As a result, a game of All Stars will, and should, be composed of the game's biggest stars, which may or may not be the same as the game's best players. And for that reason, I see no reason why any factors OTHER than fan voting should be taken into account. (Of course, this is also why it is ridiculous to have something actually riding on the game, such as home field/court/ice advantage in the playoffs.)
BTW, I don't remember anyone complaining the year that Magic was voted into the game after he retired before the 91-92 season. (OK, they complained that an HIV+ player shouldn't play, but they didn't complain that he didn't "earn" it by being one of the best players in the league that year.)

They don't need to get rid of fan voting. Fan voting is great, the game should be about who the fans want to see. It also doesn't determine the composition of the team, the other 7 players are chosen by the coaches, players don't get left out because of fan voting unless they weren't a clear all-star in the first place. What they SHOULD do is only make fan ballots available at game venues, rather than online. This would create a more educated fan vote, and reward fans who make it out to the stadium more often. It would also solve the Rockets/China problem.

No he still made the team. There were 1 or 2 other years where iverson made the team but didn't play in the game. It still counts.

I'm not impressed with Iverson this year. If it were a streak for deserving all-stars, it would be already over.
