This game against a Depaul team playing very well is the game we need every time. Patient but not plodding. Opportunistic with the backdoor and not forcing passes that slide out of bounds. Flexible enough to adjust at half on both ends.
ND was more impressive but everything was going our way in that one. That was not the case tonight and the Hoyas responded.
From Rivers' confidence to Green's assertiveness, that's the one. Keep it up, Hoyas!

DePaul was on fire and we didn't panic. I can't wait to get home and watch this one -- seems like we must not have played a great defensive game but still came away with a double digit victory.

We didn't have a great defensive game, but it wasn't like Pitt where we were giving up everything in the paint. Depaul just happened to hit everything from outside, and you just have to give them credit. Draelon Burns especially was on fire in the 1st half from 3. Nothing you can do about it, but we were strong enough mentally to weather the storm.

Watching at home I noticed that one of the biggest changes for the 2nd half was that we clamped down on 3pt D. First half we allowed them to get an open shooter on one side of the arc and then were running/jumping at the shot. Second half we were more disciplined and were able to clamp down on these shots...definitely made a big difference.

we played great defense in the second half....not so much in the first half. burns was hot in the first half because he didn't have a hand in his face. But when we actually played some defense on him and made him make shots on the move, he was ineffective.
anytime you hold a team to 22 points in a half, and at least five of those points came in the last two minutes, you've played great defense

True Daytona, but I also think Depaul's ball movement was a lot crisper in the 1st half, which helped get them far more open looks. In the second half, it seemed like they resorted to 1-on-1 play a lot more and that hurt them.

yea rockaway, I also think wainwright's decision to go to clinkscales really hurt depaul. that kid dribbles the ball too much, and he can't shoot or finish in the lane. I think that really threw them off.
also, what happened to mejia??? I thought he was better than that

only saw the second half and I agree with the comments about good perimeter D.
I also thought the poise on offense was notable. I don't recall a possession where we futilely passed around the perimeter until the shot clock nearly expired and then threw up something desperate. I noted Green's aggressive moves to the hoop and increased efforts to involve Hibbert.
A solid win. I think DePaul's performance in their next five games will tell what kind of team they might be.

the defense was good, except the guards were either out of position or gambled too much the first half and depaul got wide open looks. otherwise, a strong defensive performance.

I know people who don't like classical music may have never heard of the guy, but that's like saying Hibbert is an elite point guard.
