Yeah yeah, I know, one game at a time. But if this team is going anywhere this year other than the middle of the pack, it is time to put it together. Halfway into the season, the "kids" aren't kids anymore. There is no reason - NO REASON - we should not take the next 7 games with relative ease. We will be favored in each, and the better team by a significant amount. We lost a game we should have won with 'nova, and failed to step up enough against Pitt. Let's see just how good - or not - this team is.

Agreed. Right now, we are out of the Dance. If we are to make the field, we have to make a long run- and the middle of the soft-as-cake BE is where we can start.

Word. RU & SH need to go down and then a nice home stand against Depaul & Cincy get us right back in the mix.

Unless your handle is HoyaPlaya, you have no right to call for a run.

I disagree with the next 7 games being easy. Maybe the next 5 (or at the most, 6 games), but at home vs. Marquette is not going to be a walk in the park by any stretch. We should win, but would it be surprising if we dropped that game? Not at all.

Here's guessing we lose at least 1-2 of the next 5 games.

it would be great to see georgetown play well and get a win on wed...i really cant believe that a rational person who has watched this team play can really sit there and predict 5 or 6 or even 7 straight wins...
whatever you are drinking...pass it along to the rest
go hoyas...beat rutgers

For what it's worth, under Ken Pomeroy's model (which ranks us the #16 team in the nation), we are given a 52% chance of winning the next five in a row.

For the next five:
At Rutgers. We'd have to lay a much bigger egg than ODU or Villanova or both combined to lose this one.
At Seton Hall. They are going to press. Paul Gause is a pest. It will be interesting to see if we can handle the press well enough for Jeff and Roy and Vern to dominate a non-existant frontline.
DePaul. So darn inconsistent. I feel like this team tries to play like an NBA team, and if they make their crazy one on one shots, they are very good. Still, I think our offensive pace frustrates the heck out of them.
Cincy. See Rutgers.
At St. John's. We have bad history at the Garden, but this is not a good SJU team.
We make it through DePaul and Seton Hall and I think we'll do it.
If we want to be safely in the tourney before the BET, I think 12-4 will guarantee it. Save a loss for at Nova and we don't have a lot of margin of error left.

Yes, coaching. In fact, it is probably more important than the players.

I've got a good feeling about what we are about to see over the next 10 games. I'm calling for 9-1 and a lot less wait until next year posts on this board.

I'm thinking next 5, and reserving judgment at Lousiville until I see how both teams develop. Of the next 5, DePaul is the worry game. They've been so up and down, beating some good teams, including on the road. Mejia could give us problems, although he didn't last year, when he was coming off an ankle injury. If we don't win the other 4, we're in deep trouble.

Are we really out of the dance right now? I would think we'd be on the bubble at the very least. The bottom line is we need to play better. A lot more games like ND and Pitt (even in a loss) and a lot less games like Nova, and we'll be comfortable about our Dance ticket.

I'm pretty sure one win (Notre Dame) and three losses (Duke, Oregon, Pitt) against likely NCAA tourney teams, plus two more losses against ODU and Nova at home put us clearly off the bubble and in the NIT. We need to go 11-5 in conference and probably win the first round Big East tourney game to be locked in to the Dance. It's now or never.

I am with Easy Ed. How about we start a run of 1 win over Rutgers and worry about the rest as they come.

I am with Easy Ed. How about we start a run of 1 win over Rutgers and worry about the rest as they come. The problem with this team has been that they don't play with a sense of urgency either when winning or losing in a game. So they need to look at the big picture and realize that their season does in fact hang in the balance with every game from here on out. If they can't handle that bit of pressure, then we really are going nowhere anyway. Of course you can only win one game at a time, but there's nothing wrong with looking at the rest of the schedule if looking at the schedule makes you understand that the next game is extremely important.

I agree Dhall. One game at a time is the only way to win them, but there needs to be a sense of urgency to the way this team plays. We need a consistent effort over the VAST majority of our remaining games to have a solid place in the NCAAs. We don't have a lot of opportunities left for real strong, quality wins and we have a number of opportunities for bad losses.
This puts our schedule in two tiers-
@rut, @sh, DEP, CIN, @stj, @lou, @vil, @cin- These are the potential "bad loss games", with Louisville and Nova on the edge.....they could be good wins if those teams perform well from here on, but overall these games can't help us much if we win- they can only hurt us if we lose.
MARQ, WVU, PITT, @su, UCONN- These are the potential "good win games"........they are also very important because we have lost so many at home already and to lose another of these would really hurt (and we CAN NOT lose to SU).
Overall, not a lot of margin of error. At worst, I would think we would need to go 6-2 in the 1st tier and 3-2 in the 2nd. That would put us at 20-9 overall going into the BET. This may not even do it, but is probably the worst case scenario where we would still have a chance to be OK.
Who knows, maybe something completely different will happen and we will still be fine......however, to not start thinking about our chances of making the tourney at this point is a little like hiding your head in the sand. Are we in HUGE trouble? No, but our opportunities to make our season look a lot better are dwindling, while we still have tons of opportunities to make our season look worse. If this were last year's Big East, we would be in better shape. This year, we have a lot fewer opportunities to play top 25 teams. In the end, if we win- we get in (now I'm sounding like Lic!!), so let's take care of business in every game and make it a no-doubt situation.

For the most part I agree with Highsmith's post, but with two changes.
1) At Nova would not be a "bad loss." Their RPI/SOS is currently 29/12, and playing them at their place is not an easy task. Their mirror games this year are us, Cuse, and ND, not to mention they still have chances to pick up 2 OOC wins against Texas and St. Joe's, so they are one of the few teams I could see making the Dance as an at large with an 8-8 record in the BE if they can get there just because of their SOS.
2) UConn may not be a potential "good win" game down the line, despite the name recognition. With an RPI/SOS of 68/176 and 3 mirror games against Louisville, Rutgers, and Cuse, UConn will have a tough time getting into the top 50 RPI-wise unless they pull off some big OOC wins (Indiana and Ga. Tech are upcoming, and those would be pretty big for them and the conference). Tonight was not exactly a encouraging game for them either, as they gave that game away from the line and made a lot of mistakes characteristic of an inexperienced team that hasn't been tested at all yet.
