Marquette is smacking West Virginia in Milwaukee. Looks like having three home games to start off BE play had a lot to do with the Mountaineers fast start.

Well there goes Providence and WVU. Declared "surprise teams" by starting off at a whopping 2-0 and 3-0 respectively, they're now 2-1 and 3-2 and in the same boat as everyone else.
If the Hoyas can take care of Pitt's zero in the loss column, we pretty much reset the conference season.
Parity and mediocrity continue to rule in the Big East.

Meanwhile, Nova looks terrible against a clearly flawed Syracuse team. Watching this game and Marquette's win, it is nice (if frustrating) to see teams score some transition points and run things out on the break rather than always play patiently and allow defenses to take it to you.
I'm just sayin'...

Amen to that. 'Cuse wins 75-64. All I have to say is...
SEE! This is why there was some understandable venting after our loss to "Nova (not saying all of the venting was reasonable). They just aren't a very good team and, much like with Duke, we squandered an opportunity against a mediocre opponent.
Let's beat Pitt tonight!

This game tonight is a big deal for us. I'd really like to stay out of that tough pack of 2-loss teams.

Not on the list, but Va. Tech is smoking UNC out of the building right now, up 22 with under 12 min to go. Definitely didn't see that coming.

a lot of close contests in the top 5 today, including Wisconsin narrowly edging Northwestern and UCLA escaping with a win at USC. For my money, Florida is quite clearly the best team in the country right now.

VT staves off an embarassing collapse, upsetting UNC 94-88. Obviously UNC didn't play their best, but what a blueprint in terms of how to extend a game in a late game situation to try to come back. To get just a shot away from tying is pretty damn good considering they were down 23 with 10 minutes to go.

Va Tech helped UNC tremendously with unbelievably stupid play over the final 5 minutes or so. They truly tried to give it away. Great win for that program, though.

! The Hoyas SHOULD have won that Nova game. That's without question. The Hoyas, IMO, should have beaten all the teams it lost to including the game at Duke and the game against Oregon. Gtoown led al those games well into the second half only to squander the lead (and game) away thanks to passive and timid play and an inability to finish off opponents when they are on the ropes. despite the flaws this a potentially great team but as of now its playing up to about 60% to 70% of its capabilities. Now with all that out the way let me say this about Nova. The Wildcats had a lot of pressue on them to not go 0 and 3 on the road and fall to 0-4 in Big East play. Yes, I'm sure they would have rather gone 2 for 2 in terms of wins, but once the game with the Hoyas became a victory, the pressure was off them and they knew that even if they fell to Syracuse they had a stretch of home games to help themselves catch up in the conference standings. This is not to make any excuses for why the Hoyas lost, but it shows you how desperate teams do step up when their seasons are on the line.

Good points, MCI. I had been thinking about that while I was watching the game (that this was just a bad time to be playing 'Nova).
Hopefully, this will be a bad time for Pitt to be playing the Hoyas!

Well, our season is on the line now. We better play with a sense of desperation ourselves and put together an extended winning streak in conference play before the difficult stretch of games start, or we will be in some serious trouble this year.
BTW, Michigan loses at Purdue, Towson loses at VCU, and Oral Roberts beats UMKC on the road. Uconn about to wrap a win up against SJU too.
