...do you have any clue how to set up a press break?
I have never seen a more pitiful attempt to break a press. JT III should have walked over to the commentators and had Bilas tell him how to set a press break because he obviously has no idea.

it looked to me like we had never, ever practiced against full court pressure before.
i understand that part of the difficulty of the Saturday-to-Monday turnaround is not having as much time to prepare for your next opponent, but couldn't we have anticipated Nova's press last week?
We are right there with everybody else in the middle of the pack in this conference. We can pull Pitt back into the morass with a win on Saturday, but otherwise its wide open.
Just a disgusting effort. Jeff Green looked like a freshman. I think you have to start to say at this point that he has regressed this season. Jon Wallace may be our best and most consistent player at this point (though Summers was pretty good tonight), although it would have been nice if coach had told him not to hold the ball and wait for the pressure to come to him. Don't people get it that attacking pressure by passing and moving and running up tempo is the way to go?
A big failure.

First time Wallace has looked like a frosh in a while.... disagree that Wallace deserves a lot of blame. I think the scheme failed him, rather than vice versa. It was clear he had to break the press by himself. He hit a couple of nice shots, took it to the hole, defended well. Jeremiah Rivers was awful though. But Green was the worst.

Outcoached badly tonight. And not just the inability to break the press. Rivers in over his head...Roy invisible...and a ton of turnovers for adders.
We've got a long way to go. You can love this team, but you can't count on their showing up.
Too bad.

Granted Roy was invisible tonight, but where the heck was he for the 10 minutes that Sumpter had his four fouls on the bench That is exactly where Roy was on the bench - It says a lot !!!

You won't have to worry about Rivers being awful much longer. Once Wright and Freeman arrive he will never see the court again.

I agree its time to say Green is not as good as last year. I am SICK TO DEATH of hearing the tv guys talk about how great Hibbert and Green are when they can't seem to string two good games together. I think Wallace has certainly been our MVP this year, but even he looked outclassed today- like he had no clue what to do with the ball. Is he just too short to see over the press??? Not sure I what Ewing is bringing to the table, too much Bad Bowman spazaroo for my taste. Ditto for the Rivers of late. All in all, some of the worst passing of the JTII era.

I hope this game puts to rest the Hibbert/Green NBA talk. I love having them as Hoyas and they are very good College B-Ball Players but not NBA, at least not next year.
We were out-coached today. Great job by Nova with the press. If kids are continually having problems with something, you as a coach have to coach to fix it, III didn't today. Thankfully it's not the end of the world, get Pitt

Roy has to get in the flow consistently in order to be comfortable. Nova's D had us so baffled that no one could ever get him the ball. I'm not surprised that he eventually disappeared altogether. Give Nova credit. They came in desperate, they left it all on the floor, and although they played very stupidly at points, they were smarter than we were. Very frustrating. We are our own worst enemy.

The NBA scouts aren't going to care about this game at all in looking at Hibbert. He received exactly ONE pass in the low post all game. They understand he can't get himself the ball down there.
Green, on the other hand, has no excuse.

I do think we were outcoached, but here's another thing. Green and Hibbert are so laid back that they will never be the kind of players to take a ballgame over. That leaves us in a real quandry. Green and Hibbert have the talent to take over, but not the temperment. Wallace has the temperment, but he's most decidedly just a solid player....not a star.
Summers has the talent, but not the experience. So who can we go to for a basket in a close game down the stretch?
That may be our question of the year.

Hey folks, I was as mystified by tonight's game as anyone, but I'd take it easy on JTIII. Let's not forget that he brought us back to national prominence a hell of a lot more quickly than anyone expected. Yeah, we had problems tonight that he needs to fix, but you are one sorry Hoya fan if you turn on him based on this one outing.

No coach is flawless. It was evident from watching that we had no scheme for dealing with the pressure. That's on the coach. It doesn't mean I don't love the guy and love the direction in which he has taken the program. But it does mean that he contributed to the defeat tonight. Why can't people separate the personal from what happens on the court?

Daytona -- until next year, I think we are going to have to rely on Summers, 'cause I don't see anyone else willing or able to step up.

There's a difference between saying JTIII is bad coach and saying that HE IS A GOOD COACH WHO DID A BAD JOB THIS GAME..
There's no excuse for not making an adjustment against the press...none at all...you have to play agressively and try to get easy baskets...make them think twice about the press, make them doubt themselves a little bit...Gtown did the exact opposite and played right into their hands...
