by Jay Bilas about what a great kid Vernon is and how eminently coachable he is a a young big man. Bilas stated that Macklin has a huge upside and will be a big time player in this system.
He also went on to say that our system and style "disguises greatness". I agree wholeheartedly that it disguises greatness on the shallow level on most pundits/writers exist. What our style does is deflate numbers by accentuating the greater good and sharing of responsibility/credit.
Anyone who watches the game critically knows that Jeff green is a great player whether he puts up 4 or 24.
I give Bilas credit for going beyond the usual lazy approach of the "big time" media.

Dean Smith is another coach who used a system that "disguised greatness." I think things worked out pretty well for him and for his players.

Bilas had similar praise for Macklin in his "all-access" piece he did about a month ago. Overall, he seems to be a big fan of the current Hoya program and JT3. I also think his "disguise greatness" comment was pretty accurate and not intended as a criticism of JT3's system.
FWIW, I think the Bilas and Raftery team is easily the best college b-ball duo in the sport. They actually technically break down the specifics of the game and don't utilize Vitale's excessive fawning tactics. Their chemistry is apparent by the way they needle each other throughout the broadcast. Raftery's one liner about Bilas not being recruited by Gtown because they actually recruited "good players" was hilarious.

All one needs to do is look at the assist n umbers of our players. Our PG gets marginally worse ast #s than the avg college pg, but every other player gets much better than they might otherwise. That's how you measure greatness in our system.

It was actually Raftery who made that coment. Something about "camouflaging" greatness. Bilas happened to agree with him.

Bilas also said that "their (the HOYAS) go-to man is the one who happens to be hot at a given time"... SO on the money and SO difficult to scout and prepare for this team now, not only because of the relatively unique system, but because so many guys can burn you on a different night. BRING ON THE BEAST!!!!!!!!!!

Still, Jeff needs to get more than 4. Great player though.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I think this is a related thought. If everyone stays, its possbile that thre three most important guys on this years team all lose minutes next year. If Vernon does indeed become a beast, he could cut into Roy's minutes. If DaJuan starts playing some defense and keeps progressing offensively, he and his mean streak might play even more and start to take some minutes from Jeff, and Chris Wright (and Austin) you gotta figure will cut into Jon's minutes at least a bit, if he is all he is cracked up to be. Could be interesting. A feast indeed.

Bilas is without a doubt one of the best analysts around, second only to his partner Raf. Coach Raf is the best, his daughter is a Hoya class of '94 and one of the greatest people in the world.
The comment that deserves our attention on this board was actually when Bilas said, "Georgetown's go to guy is the one who is open."
Needless to say, Bilas is great and would have made for a fantastic Hoya.
