Like it or not, I guess we have to become Wolverine fans from here on out, to boost our ranking, rpi and seeding for the dance. Nice to see Oregon do what they're doing this year after seeing what they looked like last year----less organized than a disorganized CYO team. Having the Ducks and ODU excel this year after losing to them will lessen the sting of those losses and help our stature...
Nice to win a game like yesterday after about a B- or C+ performance (missed too many gimmes and need to be stronger with the ball around the basket, but we're moving in the right direction). Under the previous regime, we'd lose these types of games at this time of year (ex. Virgina in '01 and '02), and they usually exposed an untested Hoya squad with an inflated record. This team goes a legit 9 - 10 deep and is so many light years ahead in efficiency on both ends of the court - and we STILL have a NICE upside... Keep up the great work guys and HAPPY NEW YEAR to EVERYONE in HOYA land... BRING ON THE BEAST!!!!!!!!!

lexkyhoya & St. Petersburg Hoya -- you have literally made my day confirming that the upper section was loud and we could be heard that low. As someone approaching my 10 year reunion in May, I am even happier that you thought we were students (primarily very young alums).

SoCalHoya, SoCalHoya, Roy's timing is definitely intact...pls watch him from the time he gets down the court...man, I wish you would of listen to two of the great announcers in college basketball Rafferty and Bilas...they are special and really know the game...they said many times Roy is working his butt off to get open and not getting the ball quick enough from the guards because are not looking in the post quick and swiftly enough...now thats timing that should be done before Roy gets the ball...Roy is in place all the time, but he does not get the ball inside consistently...also, give the other team some credit for playing good defense on Roy because I agree Roy should not bring the ball down into the defense especially with the smaller defensive players right there...thats cool Roy worked it out...lets talk about all the good things our leader did...led the team in scoring on basically his own work...lol...an assist...steal...diving for loose balls...blocks...led team in rebounding as should...i mean come one man...Go Hoyas!!! Give it to da Big Dog...
Oh, and before I forget, Roy is almost there. He needs to work a bit on timing, especially on put backs. He can't be getting blocked by shorter players like he did in the first half. It's too encouraging to the other team. But, he did make up for this stuff in the second half. Once he consistently nails that Jabbarish skyhook he has been trying, it's going to be all over for other teams...

If he makes his defender(s) respect his turn-around jumper then the lane will be wide open for a drop step to the hoop.

Since you made the mistake of calling me out: Rockaway Hoya...IF this is suppose to be your favorite college basketball team you would know your team and the position they are in, were in, etc...okay, check this out...lol...ready...my quotes..."that was a "GREAT WIN" for the position the Hoyas were in especially going into Big East play...it was special...now, LETS GO HOYAS!!! I don't believe I have to qualify myself to anybody (least of all, you) on this board whether or not I'm a knowledgeable fan of this team. You're not the first "holier than thou" poster to come through HoyaTalk, and I'm pretty sure you won't be the last. But if you continue to tell people they know nothing about their team any time you disagree with their viewpoints, you won't last long on this board. It's a message board with 2500 posters, and probably 2500 different opinions. If you can't respect that, then head over to the Maryland board where you'll fit right in at home. The difference between my posts and yours are clear. You say the same thing in EVERY POST! We get it that you are an advocate of Roy and Jeff getting more touches. Many, if not all of us, are as well. At least I offer differing points and evidence/arguments to back them up. You accomplish neither. If you have anything to say other than the fact you're unhappy with our guards' passing abilities and the lack of touches for our big men, I'll be quiet. But I'm pretty sure at least 90% of your posts, if not more, say the same exact thing. I'm pretty sure many here have the same feeling that I'm about to type: don't come back until you have something else constructive to say. And one last point. Look it up in a dictionary: QUICKLY and SWIFTLY mean EXACTLY THE SAME THING. [end /rant]

RockawayHoya,
I will address your concerns...I have told you and many others I respect their opinions...also pls know your facts before you speak or write...I don't need you or anyone else for that matter to threaten me about lasting on this board...I know I didn't do anything wrong or I didn't say anything wrong as far as this board is concerned...now, if you feel really sensitive about my great knowledge about my favorite college basketball team I'm sorry, I apologize, get over it!!!...I never said I was holier than thou...I don't play with religions like that so please refrain from the religions...(by the way I'm Baptist, but I just don't want to get into that...stick to Hoyaball...smile)...Funny how folks like my conversation...I might of said what I said so many times, but if you've noticed some were for different folks...just so u understand..."you must remember "quickly and swiftly" may mean the same thing, but remember this they are still "TWO" words...smile...Go Hoyas!!!

One thing about Roy in the post at the Michigan game that I haven't heard yet. Yes, he was getting open and had some good looks, but he was getting triple-teamed. This flustered him a bit (as it would just about anyone else) and made him susceptible to traveling, offensive fouls or getting the ball stripped. Luckily, not too much of that for our dear Roy on that day. He was pretty good about dishing back out again and letting our guards hit the 3.
Oh, and I almost forgot. JW and Roy have some pretty intense basketball chemistry. JW's layups were almost always off of Roy's movement, and it seemed very natural and instinctive. Hard to describe.

After watching the game and now finally getting around to reading this thread, the only thing I dont understand is the sentiment that we played only an "ok" game or something around a "B- or C+". We could have hit one or two more FTs, made a few missed layups, and committed a few less turnovers, but IMO if we play like at the same level as we did against Michigan for the rest of the year, there will be very few losses and a whole lot of impressive wins. We cant expect perfect basketball.

Is 1/21/06 an A+ or is the sweater game an A+?

well seeing as the sweater game was a differnet coach and different style of play i'd leave 1/21/06 as out A+. since it's the best we've played jtiii's system.
