I don't think Gtown played great. I'm not even sure if they put up a "very good" effort either. Considering all the turnovers, the missed free throws, the blown opportunities, allowing Michigan to have a late first-half run, etc, I can't even give the team a B. Maybe a B- is more accurate. Still a win on the road is a win on the road. Just wish the team would play an A game.

Just back from a sports bar, so my enthusiasm is probably enhanced by the pints... but:
1. REALLY liked the look of the young'uns. Summers is a solid starter. Macklin is starting to roll nicely on the pick and roll-type plays -- looks like he's picking up the PrinceTown nicely. Egerson looked solid. Rivers can handle the ball nicely.
2. The D looks better than advertised from earlier in the season. The 2-3 zone looked great -- we closed out on the shooters really aggressively.
3. Hibbert is back for another season. But he may go 20-12 next year. Fumbles, not aggressive enough, a couple of 'deer in the headlight' moments, and he STILL goes 6-8!
4. Michigan had too many young guys who were scared early and tired late. They didn't have the guts to drive into our teeth, and they had no comeback when we came out strong after the half and buried them. THIS is what I like to see from the Hoyas!
5. LIC -- only 67. You sad? mad? glad? ;-)

you're kinda right mci we really didn't play very well, but we played well enough to win with out really being threatened. We still turnover the ball too much and all of are plyers could've done better e.g roy needs to work on holding onto the ball.
it was sloppy at times but i don't think it was bad at all. i'd give it a B to B+ we can play a lot better but i think even with that effort we'd beat most of the teams in the BE.

Your are correct. The more important thing is we are at the point as a team and a program where we can not bring our "A" game and still win by 15 on the road against a power conference opponent - its been a while since we could say that.

Just got back from Crisler Arena. First Hoya game in person in 5 1/2 years so still very, very excited.
A few thoughts:
1) Roy definitely looked soft in the first half. There were several occasions when he definitely should have followed up better. Second half he looked a lot better with the drop step and hit a couple of lay-ups. 2) Am interested to see how loud their crowd was versus. The 50 Hoya fans who were in Section 53, Rows 32-40 was a verry, very vocal group and did the Hoya faithful proud. It really seemed as if we were not being shouted down and was definitely nice to be on the other side of one of those loud, visiting crowds. Also, much props to the group in front of me with the Hoya Saxa t-shirts. Some of those folks traveled a long, long way to be there. 3) This win will not look to good later on in the year. It appears that Amaker has lost his seniors and maybe the team. The effort that was put forth by Michigan was embarrassing and if this season does not cost Amaker hsi job, than nothing will. Having III on the bench made a difference. The game was won with that run to start the second half. 4) Overall, I was impressed and happy. I disagree that the game was a B-. I would definitely say a B+ as it is still a road win.

At the ESPN Men's Basketball Home page:
"Georgetown looked like the team we expected in the preseason"
This win may really, really help us after all.

yeah the analysts seem to be more impressed by this win than most hoya fans. which makes sense since this is the first national tv game since Duke. They haven't seen the improvement the rest of us have already seen. could see us shoot up in the ARV.

Your are correct. The more important thing is we are at the point as a team and a program where we can not bring our "A" game and still win by 15 on the road against a power conference opponent - its been a while since we could say that. Agreed that is wasn't an A game but what really impressed me was Georgetown's quiet confidence on the court. There was no sense of panic when the 16 point lead went to 9, they just did their work and the results followed. This is one of Coach Thompson's great strengths--he doesn't get too high or too low over a game and this manifests itself in how the players react to game situations. Even when Jeff Green goes 0-7, he was right there for the second half. Games like this also reemphasize why Jon Wallace is a consummate floor leader. Watching Georgetown set up its halfcourt sets and Wallace's ability to set up spacing among the players is really something else. Gene Smith remains my all-time favorite Hoya guard, but a case can and will be made for JW before all is said and done. The Michigan boards today read a lot like Georgetown circa 2003. The talent is there but the focus isn't there on the court nor the bench. Some, but not all, of this is directed at Amaker--I think his tactic of benching the starters against Army backfired in this game, but players like Sims and Petway just aren't clicking at a time of year they should be. Amaker can't make the threes fall, of course, but some better sets might have helped. The fact that Michigan players were spotting up for 25'+ shots when they could have driven shows everyone wasn't on the same page.

One of the things I noticed about Michigan is that it was very, very easy to take them out of their game. There was one or two timeouts that III called that seemed to nip some Michigan runs in the bud.
Completely agree with you on J Wallace. I think Wallace being on the bench is much more significant than when Jeff is on the bench.
With regards to Amaker, in reading the pre-game in the Ann Arbor News, the seniors seem disgusted with the move. They were not talkative after the Army win and seemed completely out of it today.

definitely a solid road win - good to see the last OOC game finish up strong. obviously not a "perfect" game, but it makes me feel a lot more confident going into the BE season.

This was a big-time defensive performance for our guys, and a solid job on the offensive end. We won't be in the polls next week, but you'd have to be crazy not to recognize that the Hoyas are easily one of the Top 25 teams in the nation, right now.

a nice win for sure, but until the hoyas string together a few wins against be competition, i wouldn't consider this team a top 25 team. if the hoyas take care of nd and nova, then there's something to talk about.

I think we're a better team now than our body of work suggests...but even just based on the body of work I'll bet we're in the Top 20 of Ken Pomeroy's ratings tomorrow. (I think we were 25 or 26 going in to Ann Arbor, and he predicted a 4-point Georgetown victory.) Those ratings are a better guide to who the best teams are, as compared to the polls or the RPI.

Totally agree with DFW and jackdog on Wallace. He had some bad turnovers today, but his value as a floor leader sometimes doesn't show up on the stat sheet. Whichever guy on TV (Bilas?) said he was one of the most underrated players in the country is right IMO. (I also agree with DFW on his all-time favorite Hoya guard.)
I think a real key for this team, though it doesn't get talked about much, is 3-point shooting. People key on our bigs near the basket, so when we can hit from downtown we're a potent team offensively. Today we hit five more 3s than they did on one fewer attempt. There's your 15-point difference in the score.
Great Hoya defense today.

Loved that Green kept taking shots even when he was down 0-7. He finally found his shot and then team needed it by the time he did. He had a couple of sick plays in the first half -- was really hustling hard. Loved his effort.
