Despite the intimation made on the front page of the site. Yes, it's true that Esherick floated the idea that we might play Michigan as an OOC opponent back when he was coach, but he also floated the idea that he would be the coach at Georgetown for the next 40 years, and we saw how far that got him. JTIII and his staff negotiated this deal to play Michigan - Esherick had nothing to do with it. As much as it pains some of the powers that be on this board to credit JTIII with anything, trying to give credit to Esherick for this quality OOC game is just absurd.
That said, go Hoyas! We need a good win heading into the Big East slate!

Yeah it does - Tommy Amaker is killing the once proud Michigan program just like Esh tried his best to kill ours.

The following quote from the front page is a statement of fact: See the linkled article in The Hoya dated September 12, 2003. The quote above from the front page does nothing to extol any virtues of former coach Esherick and similarly does nothing to disparage current coach Thompson and his staff. Stop tilting at windmills.

As much as it pains some of the powers that be on this board to credit JTIII with anything... I think the term "absurd" is bit more applicable to that little ditty...

Somebody needs to explain to me why I should care who deserves credit for this game.

Somebody needs to explain to me why I should care who deserves credit for this game. Everyone knows Elmer Ripley scheduled this game in a cryptic note that remined unopened until after his death where he predicted "In 100th year, the Hoyas will vanquish coach from great north with neck of turtle." This is strange in that he could turn out to be correct, sure. But it is more strange when you consider that Coach Ripley hated nothing more than sloppy ball handling and the elimination of articles from speech for dramatic and mystical effect.

How an article refers back to a 2003 contract is suddenly "not crediting JTIII" is, again a stretch. It's a credit to the staff that they didn't just tear up the deal, beacuse it's a good test for the team at this time, and it's got a network broadcast in a very busy time of the year for college and pro football programming.
A lot of college teams' game notes often point out when a game was scheduled in the past by a former coach as a point of reference (i.e., "The series was signed after the 2001 season by former coach Todd Berry".)
Kevin Kelly will be working with Bob Benson's non-conference scheduling until 2009, and I'm sure some of Pat Knapp's games are only now coming off the schedule for Coach Flournoy.
