How can UMCP help these families when they're constantly burning their couches?

goodbye bb&t...you had a nice run...and by nice run i mean you secured at least 73 paid customers for the howard - navy game last year....congrats

The State of SC named the V Foundation to their Scrooge List this year for charities not using much of their income on the actual cause the charity supports.
Amazing that no mention of that has been made nationally other than the V Foundtion saying they're changing how they spend their money - with no mention of the controversy.

Amazing that no mention of that has been made nationally other than the V Foundtion saying they're changing how they spend their money - with no mention of the controversy. Mike Tirico (on MNF) pointed out that the V Fdn just recently got to the point where the endowment is big enough to cover operating expenses. Not that I'm taking that as gospel, but if that is the case, that's a pretty big hurdle to get over. A lot of foundations and non-profits fail pretty quickly because fundraising tapers off, they have to raise money just to cover day-to-day expenses, etc. and there's often little left to address their mission. If V has gotten over that hump, it's a big deal. That said, they may be bloated and inefficient and poorly run, in which case the State of SC Scrooge List might be right.

Looks to me like we have two interests really pushing this. The media, who are lazy and need a pre-fabricated "Capital Area Champion" storyline, and GW boosters, who want to ride on Georgetown's coattails and figure that the Hoyas would slip up and lose to them eventually. It's only a story if Georgetown loses, Maryland excepted.

Cam, The Tirico blurb you mentioned sounds like the wire story I saw the other day. I never saw any reference confirming it was the same V Foundation, the internet stories from SC never confirmed it. I just assumed it was because it was located in NY or Raleigh or wherever it was that made me think it was the same group.

Seems to me the V Foundation doesn't do a whole lot besides these overblown basketball games and their golf tournement, so I really don't see, unfortunately, how they'd have much money to keep things going and contributing without significant WWL support.

during the jimmy v classic games the announcers (vitale) said that every dime that goes to the foundation today goes directly to cancer research because the endowment is so big that it covers all costs. not sure how that would put it on anyone's "scrooge list"

In life Jimmy V was a dirty coach. In death he earns money for charities, yet somehow he still cheats. Some things never change. I love how people get turned into saints because they suffer tragedy.

Agreed... phenomenal thread, both the initial post and some of the back and forth in the comments (a touch of typical G'town hate, but mostly informed discussion and substantive questions).

Yeah, and let's focus on the "millions" lost due to our decision to pass on the BB&T Classic and not on the multi-millions generated over the past several years as a result of the home schedule we play. For god's sake, we used to play in Maryland. Georgetown has done more for this city, on every strata level, directly and indirectly, than any of the other DC-based colleges and universities...since 1789.

I just want to chime in and say how fascinating that UVA guy's post was....very well-written and insightful. Whether all the details are true is another story, but very very cool. I wish we had that guy on the Board rather that gator homer.

I wish we had that guy on the Board rather that gator homer. The story doesn't really match up w/ the version in "Big Man on Campus"--including not mentioning that Wooten was considered for Gtown's HC job along with JT Jr. Also, it failed to mention that Feinstein=bum

So when is this hard-hitting WTOP report coming out? I, for one, am greatly anticipating the shocking news about how GU "really operates."

I've heard all about Barry's "b... set me up" line. Didn't realize he tried to go after JT2 when he got arrested.

I wonder how accurate that guy's post is on the UVA talk board, it is an interesting perspective but I wonder how much is pure assumption.
