Does anyone know what happened to Dr. Vincent Kelly - the nice older man who sings The Star Spangled Banner before our home games. I like the new guy, don't get me wrong, but Dr. Kelly has sort of been an institution at Hoya home games for the last few seasons.

I thought the same thing last night. I hope Dr. Kelly is ok. Hopefully its just a scheduling conflict.

Vincent often gets screwed at big games, but I have no idea why he hasn't been at the last two home games.
One of the greatest moments of my life was shaking his hand at a game last year, and telling him that he was much better that the lame choir that had usurped his position that day.

Vinny has been an institution for more than just the past few years. Can't remember anyone else belting out the National Anthem better than the old chum.

Vin Kelly sang at my Bar Mitzvah...he's got a wonderful voice. If I ever get my computer working again, I want to record him singing the national anthem for my Hoya Pep Band CD. I'm sure he'll be back.

He may be an institution, but the guy who sang the anthem at the last game absolutely kicked its ass. He had an incredible voice!

I agree- I love the guy who sang the last 2 home games. His rendition was perfect.

Of all the anthems I've heard, Whitney Houston's at the Superbowl in 96 ranks the tops...I like the soprano sax and steel guitar instrumental guys that show up to wizards games, I liked Rockapella's rendition earlier this year. Thankfully we've never really had anyone atrocious sing that I can remember.

Really? You're sure it was that year that the Bills lost the Superbowl? There's so many it runs together...
From a Giants fan, that was too easy.
Best anthem by far is Marvin Gaye at the NBA All-Start game... find and download..

People - no one has mentioned Carl Lewis in this discussion yet. For shame.

I actually liked the one from the Blazers game a couple of years ago where the poor 12-year-old girl singing totally froze. Mo Cheeks walked over, threw his arm around her, started singing, and got the whole crowd to join in. Mo Cheeks is not a good basketball coach.

I loved the anthem pre-Duke, with the gospel choir singing and there being so much energy that people joined in. It didn't work out, since the choir's rendition was on the slower side and the arena wanted things to start, but I got goosebumps during that anthem that weren't related to watching Georgetown play Duke.
Speaking about YouTube, there's a great clip with the Dead singing at a Giants game.

Between Dr. Kelly and Dr. Chivotkin, I think the Hoyas are covered on mental health professionals!

Marvin Gaye at the 1983 All Star Game. The only creative rendition of the All Star game I ever enjoyed. For everyone else (including the current guy) just stick to the normal beat and knock it out as quick as you can. Or as my old friend Stan used to say "Just sing the d@mn song!!"

Two things about that clip: 1) when else have you ever seen people clapping along to the National Anthem? 2) Jamaal Wilkes made the 1983 All Star team? I totally had forgotten about him as a key player on those early 80's Lakers squads.
