YB, I am not sure, but I believe that there is some space on the continuum between "Princeton Offense" and "Fist."
Edit - however, it still doesn't change the fact that our defense and offensive rebounding have, despite appearances, been well worse than our offense (which hasn't been good either).
After yesterday our adjusted offensive efficiency is 51st, defensive efficiency is 218th, and offensive rebounding percentage is 177th. Our offense rebound allowed percentage is 32nd, but even that should be higher given our roster.

hoyaboy, I get what you're saying... but the best way to win here is the way we won last year. Teach them skills, make them work together. Right now that's not happening, but I think that will come with time. The bigger problem to me is lack of rebounding and defense, because that's just effort.
BUT- our defense is set up by crisp offensive sets, at which time we get back for clamp-down D. If we miss, they run on us. That's where the rubber hits the road on the offense, in my opinion.

The defense is a much bigger problem than simply not getting back after misses. Trying to bring everything back to the offense just doesn't work.

Does III have his head in the sand? Doesn't sound like he's getting set to light too many fires here.

"Please Mr. JT III...can we RUN the ball upcourt. Every time. This is not a lady's tea." If you watch Coach closely, he is almost always yelling "Push" & waving his hands in a sweeping motion towards our basket when we get a steal &/or rebound that quickly finds our PG. I see Jessie as a huge culprit here. He always delays crossing mid-court, and in the last minute yesterday, I'd say he dribbled away about 25 seconds.

Wallace, Eggerson, Summers, Macklin, Sapp...everyone else, you are cut. Please return your jerseys and be off campus by the end of the day. Thank you. Goodbye.

It seemed like our perimeter D was late on almost every pass today. While this is certainly to be expected playing any type of zone against a pass-happy, perimeter oriented team such as the Mighty Ducks, it seemed to create serious problems for two reasons:
1) They had a lot of shots where the best defense we could muster was lunge towards the shooter's face...which, of course, brings back the horrible memories of Notre Dame last year [shudder]. When Oregon drove the ball into the lane, we had no problem stuffing their shots (even little Wallace got in on the act!), but they had far too many open looks last night. 2) We were often out of position and frequently couldn't box out. This last point might explain why we only held a THREE REBOUND edge over the Quackers.
Not sure how to solve this problem but it will likely

The student section was on fire tonight, definitely. Everyone was on their feet and rowdy. Usually the on defense ohhh's and jumping peter out early but they stuck with it tonight. YA section was up on their feet a lot more too. The crowd wanted it even if the team didn't... I agree. A home court advantage with the fans (although Oregon travels well) doesn't matter if the team doesn't want to win. I hope that students don't get too discouraged. Beating Duke isn't a panacea but it sure would help now. I know they like their ducks to a degree, but I wouldn't expect there to be that many Oregon fans make the trek all the way across the country for a early season out of conference game. Did they really have that many fans there? Obviously some are local alums and the sort, but still.

Go away. No wait...........I'll answer first. Washington, DC definitely has some of the most diverse alumni groups in the country. MANY of our opponents have large constituencies at our games. Even Ball State had a decent showing, and they weren't just Ronny's friends & family. The President of BSU spoke to a large group of Alumni at Clyde's before the game. Also addressing the BSU folks was: John Thompson, Jr.
Now go away.

I know that Washington is certainly a bit of a melting pot for those from schools all over. Still, ifrom what St. Pete said, Oregon was especially well represented. That is all I was asking about. For examply, Atlanta and San Francisco both have very large Gator Clubs, far more members and far more active than other big cities. That's all I was asking. DOn't get in a hissy fit for no reason.

Everyone is in a hissy fit today. We lost last night. Touche' Hopefully this will be the wake up call. If they can't get focused to go on the road and face Duke at Cameron then I don't know what would light a fire under them. They have got to know that Duke is going to want a degree of revenge for last year. I expect a big time effort and I honestly think the Hoyas will pull it out, something like 65-62. Good Luck

Couple things about last night:
1. Roy needs to spin to the outside and go for the glass instead of spinning in, trying a head fake, bringing the ball down, and either getting stripped or missing the tip. He also needs to JUMP when getting a rebound.
2. Jeff needs to play harder. I don't know any other way to put it. The one bright spot on his night was 8 boards.
3. What's with hating on Jon? Yes, his A/T ratio was 3/4 , but he single-handedly kept us in that game by scoring 17 pts (game high), scrambling for loose balls, locking down Porter, and getting a few clutch rebounds. There are things he needs to work on, but he's not the reason this team is stuggling right now.
4. Marc is coming along. He still makes "Brandon-esque" mistakes, but his intensity is much needed.
5. The Frosh ... I don't feel like talking about the frosh right now.
6. Jesse might be better as our 1, and Jon might be better as our 2, once Jesse learns the system better. By then Baby Doc might be better prepared to run the point, though. I mean, when Jon is putting up 50% from behind the arc, and Jesse is putting up 20%, you gotta listen to what the numbers are saying.
7. Things that killed us last night: turnovers, lack of intensity, not running the offense, defensive rebounds, Jeff only taking 4 shots, and our frontcourt combining for 9 points.
Let's get it together for Dook, Hoyas. Coach -- I hope you find a way to motivate these guys fast.

Some telling stats last night:
Three pointers - 1st half
Georgetown: 1-4 Guy who won the shoot out contest at half-time: 1-4
Shots by Jeff Green: 4 Beers drank by Jimmy: 5 (and 2 long island ice teas - one of which was chugged on a muscle tussle - that was classic)
