High Schools: Huskies first stop on Giles' trip list
By MICHAEL MCLAUGHLIN SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
Rainier Beach center C.J. Giles yesterday began an official, 48-hour recruiting visit to the University of Washington, one of three trips the 6-foot-11 senior said he will take in his second recruitment process.
Giles said he would visit Kansas next and decide on the third school later.
Giles signed his official release from Miami Thursday, and Rainier Beach coach Mike Bethea sent copies of the document to the UW and Kansas yesterday. Giles signed with the Hurricanes in November and then requested a release when the school fired coach Perry Clark.
"The recruiting trips are the fun part of the process," Giles said yesterday. "I'm really interested in Washington. I'd like to stay close to home, but my dad really likes Kansas and wants me to go there. I'd have to say I'm still leaning toward Washington."
Phone calls from interested suitors began yesterday morning, with Indiana, Louisiana State, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Gonzaga and Oregon State contacting Rainier Beach athletic director Dan Jurdy.
"The frenzy has started," Jurdy said. "A lot of schools are saying they made a big mistake not going after C.J. in the first place."

giles is virtually locked up for Kansas. His father played for the Jayhawks and they are currently number one on his list. He will visit Washington and Cincinatti before he makes a decision though. But i think that since Padgett left, Giles will be able to make an instant impact with Sasha Kahn next year as freshman. One of those two will likely start next to Simien. Giles is not nearly as much of a mystery as Harriston is on where he will end up. I give KU a 75% chance in landing Giles.

i hope the UDub lands him... would love to see them back in the tourney for the years to come... they don't graduate anyone this year from the starters last year...
