A quote by Jon Wallace in the Times (aka Georgetown backing paper) brought to light a positive quality in the Hoyas that shows just how far we've come in the last three years.
Obviously it's nice to hear that we have players who have the talent to step up and that Marc and Jessie are getting better. What struck me more, though, was how the Hoyas are learning how to toughen up in close games. Remember the Esherick Era (shiver)? As hard as it may be to remember, we actually played a lot of games close, and these games always came down to which team had more grit in the final minutes. Almost to a game, Esherick's Hoyas would flop towards the end...heaving threes, turning the ball over, generally sucking due to bad coaching. The new, improved Hoyas know that late game play is paramount. Over the course of the season we'll have bad games (like the Hartford game), but as long as we have confidence in late game play and make the right decisions when it counts, these tight games will come out as W's a lot more often than L's. Pretty comforting to know that the team is ready to win the close ones.

I shouted "no" when Marc let go that 3 since, at that point in time, we should have been milking the clock. Of course, it went in so all's well but it was a dumb shot to take.

At his own will or his coach's? JT3 might have told him to take open shots.
And I don't think it was "grit" that cost us during previous years -- I thought we had that in abundance. "Poise" and "preparedness" on the other hand...

Funny you mention that about our lack of execution (that is putting it mildly) in close games during the Esherick era. Watching the Knicks this year is similarly frustrating. I was thinking about it during the 3OT game last week.
Both at the end of regulation and also the end of one of the overtimes, they came out of timeout Crawford dribbled around for 20 seconds and fired up a wild, off-balance three pointer as time expired. I had to take a look to make sure Esh wasn't on the sidelines.

Then again, maybe Isiah was taking a page from Esherick's book. Go back to the tape and see whether he put up two fists towards the end of the game. This was Esh's patented "Lose Now" play.

I'd say the level of coaching is about the same. I really don't see the Knicks going anywhere until they're rid of the Dolans.
