It appears they lost Cage who provided minutes off the bench and Byars who was one of their top two scorers and a starter. Pretty comparable to us. This will be their first game which is always difficult as well. Should be a solid early season match-up on the road.
There guards killed us last year and they appear to have decent size if either Nwankwo, Metcalfe, Neltner or Brown get any run. Last year, only Metcalfe got minutes out of this group.

This game is 50/50. I wouldnt be surprised if we lose by 10 -- then again I wouldnt be surprised to see us win by the same margin. Helps a lot that it's our second game, but going on the road agst a legit team is tough this early in the season. I'm predicting a win, only bc I think our 3s will fall, but if they dont fall we lose. If we played this game in February I think it'd be 80/20 the Hoyas win, but we need time to gel.

I really enjoy watching Vandy play and respect their program a lot--well coached, classy school, and good players. Love this series and it's nice to play them because they challenge you with good players/system and Stallings is a coach who will attack your weak areas and expose to you what is needed to improve. This will be a tough game, and if Hoyas aren't hitting from outside, we'll not win this one--you have to play well on road/neutral sites to be a contender in any sport and this is test I'm most looking forward to in early part of season--the road games.
Shan Foster is outstanding and will be one of the best players we'll see Hoyas face all year. Could test for our SF position on defense and we could see III throw some looks at him with Tyler Crawford's defense being very important in this upcoming game.

Cage and Byars are back; Nwanko is not. It is troubling that Vanderbilt's strength (wing play) is our weakness. Crawford and Egerson are really going to have to step up on defense.

This will be a tough game for us. I wouldn't be surprised to lose it; we have struggled traditionally against other teams that run variants of the Princetown O. Plus our new guys are still getting integrated. I say Vandy by 12- but we'd win this game later in the year.

And this is where I have to chime in that I am completely untroubled by Vandy.
They lost their entire frontcourt and are left with Ross Neltner and Alan Metcalfe, two emergency players on most teams. Meanwhile, Shan Foster is looking to jump to the NBA. Oh wait, no he isn't because he's not projected to go in any mock draft anywhere (one list had him at #97). Why? Because he's a tall shooter who is all-conference by leading his mediocre team in scoring. Like Owens or Riley, Shan Foster's value is being a long defender and his value on game-by-game basis is measured by his three-point shooting numbers. 5-6 from three? Awesome Shan. 2-7? Not so awesome. He doesn't drive, pass, or board particularly well, which makes it hard for me to believe he is actually one of the best players we'll face.
Byars is a nice player and he and Foster will be jacking the threes and the Hoyas will have to close out on them. But that's really the essential part of the gameplan. They're thin up front and have very little bench. The Hoyas will have to play better than they did versus Hartford, sure. But I'll say they'll be more fired up for this one and definitely more comfortable on the floor. So I think the Hoyas will pay Vandy back for last year's home opener upset and Roy and Jeff will lead the way.
Cakewalk? Of course not. Easy? never. But the Hoyas should win this game, make no mistake about it.

Vandy has apparently ditched the Princeton O and is fast breaking constantly. I do not know if they have kept the O in their playbook at all or in any form, but the Vandy board and posters seem to say the O is completely dead there.

I'd be much more worried about this game if they hadn't ditched the princeton offense. I'm not as worried aobut the new fast breaking vandy. I can't wait for the first team to try and play man against us. Does anyone think there are goign to be any coaches on the schedule stubborn enough to play exclusively man agianst us. Will coach K make the smae mistake twice?

this vandy squad is a team that is picked to finish no higher that 4th in their DIVISION and last in at least one preseason publication. to be picking gtown to lose by double digits is ridiculous and an indictment of our top 10 ranking nationally.
If this team wants to be taken seriously, it needs to win this game. I dont care how close it is, but guys that want to be considered all-big east caliber are going to have to come to play, and that includes the two-time DE player of the year marc egerson, as well as the one-time Virginia AA player of the year TC. Obviously this is not a must-win, but it is a statement game to say Georgetown has arrived.

I honestly can't make up my mind about this game yet, I think it might be a game time decision on this one. If we play the way we did against Hartford we lose but if we play up to our potential and shoot a little bit better we come away with the W. I really think it is going to be close but we will pull it out becasue the guys will be pumped up becasue I am assuming they read the articles about the Hartford game and hopefully JTIII ripped them a new one. So lets just wait and see...

Speaking of Davis Nwanko, did anyone hear what happened to Roy Hibbert's former high school teammate?
From vucommodores.com: Advised to give up athletic playing career at Vanderbilt following diagnosis of enlarged heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Suffered cardiac arrest during a practice session on March 6, 2006, but was revived by Vanderbilt athletic trainer Mike Meyer, who administered one shock from an automated external defibrillator (AED) and two rescue breaths.
Sad story.

BTW, bracketology on ESPN already. News overdose. Hoyas at 3 seed and slipping with Zona as a rising 1 seed (could have been two, I forget). This is just stupid.

I dunno- we could have said the same things about the Vandy game last year too. We lost and rounded into good form around midseason.
I see no reason to think this years game might be different- they may or may not beat us, but ultimately it won't be critical. The team right now still looks discjointed- needs more time playing together to determine roles and focus in.

For what it is worth, the line is up on the ESB site and GU is minus 7. And if you care, Vandy was picked last in the SEC east by our local writer. Of course he is a total shmuck ... but still, just in case you are into that sort of thing.

I legend ahead that the Gerogetown University of Hoyas defeats the Vanderbilt University of Commadores. This play is very close and I sees not our loved Hoyas attractive by more than 5. Hope-fully the play serves our players against the hardFords university falcons as announcement that its competitors give a maximum effort to strike it. Georgetown university is arranged national and the largest play of the season for many competitors will be.
The play against hardFords was alarming by the fact that the Georgetown University of Hoyas zero-scored from its bank received. Mr. Ewing junior, Mr. Summers and Mr. Rivers could not count and promote the crew completely. Only Mr. Sapp made available points of the bank. This must change and we neet to develop for from of depth to. We must work also on our action movement. Even in the last play we did not accomplish a back door, which were cut or everything, which is the Princeton action resembeling. We also let dive only into the entire play. Our drive to the basket was never simple. I trust that John Thompson of the Third stops the necessary adjustments and University of Hoyas leads the Georgetown to success in its first important test of this season

The quiet story of this game: Tyler Crawford v. Shan Foster. I think a big part of us not offering Foster was that we were really high on Crawford. Here is his chance to prove us right.
