This article ROCKS. Some choice quotes:
"I always have admired Georgetown basketball, and one thing has always stood out to me. Georgetown players are incredibly loyal to one another, and to the program. In kind, the program is intensely loyal toward and protective of its players. I always have respected the brotherhood that is Georgetown basketball, and I always have respected that you have to put sweat equity into the program to get into the building."
"I asked coach John Thompson III what "Hoya Paranoia" means to him now. He replied, "That we're good." And Georgetown is good, and getting better."
"4. We got a special window into the Hoyas world. It was only reluctantly that JT3 agreed to allow us to put a microphone on him for an All-Access piece. It is simply not the Hoya way, but I was honored and pleased that JT3 allowed us in. Clearly, he was not comfortable wearing the mic during practice. It was not because he would somehow give away some strategic point, or give a rival coach some insight into the way he approaches certain game situations (because I tell every coach that such things will not be aired), it was because JT3 did not want in any way to have something on tape that might be seen as showing up a player or putting a player in a position to feel embarrassed for being corrected on tape that will air over and over again. Simply put, he was concerned for the well being of his players, and that he would not conduct practice in his normal manner. After about an hour and a half, he asked if he could take off the mic, and of course, it was fine with us. He was clearly more comfortable after that."
"JT3 has some great kids on his team, the kind of kids that any university would be proud of. They are smart, polite and engaging young men who belie the Hoya Paranoia reputation that some still have of the Georgetown program. I can tell you that Macklin, whom I have worked with, is a great kid, as is Green, Rivers and Wallace, just to name a few. In my judgment, they are players of high character, and players with whom JT3 can build something lasting and meaningful."
"With his son sitting near him, it is inescapable to conclude that it must be difficult to be constantly compared to your father, especially when you take over the program that your father made famous in his own unique way. It is equally inescapable to conclude that JT3 is leaving his own mark on the Georgetown program. These are not your father's Hoyas. But I suspect that they could be just as capable soon enough."
Seriously, you will never hear another bad word about Jay Bilas from me after this piece. It's almost embarassingly positive.

*JTIII was reluctant @ first to give "all access" because he was concerned about showing up some of his players for making mistakes.
*he talked to Pops, too.
*Jay is in love w/Jeff & Vernon

That was the best article I've read in a long time. Great job by Bilas. It sounds as though there may be a TV piece coming out of this. Maybe on sportscenter?
PM me if you want the article

Can someone pm me the article? Thanks in advance. I think I got everyone who wanted a PM -- if there are any other requests someone else can handle them. Normally I wouldn't take the time to do this but this article needs to be read by everyone. St. Pete, I will expect a check in the mail in 2.5 years.

PM me if you want the article Yeah, with CFB they usually run the "All-Access" pieces on College Gameday. I would bet this shows up when we play @ Pitt in January.

Definitely worth the price of insider. I particularly enjoyed this insightful thought: "JT3 drills his players not just to pass, but to see and read, at which time the right pass is evident and leads to something good. He preaches to move the ball to the open man, not for the assist, but to move the defense and to perhaps be the pass that leads to the assist. (As an aside, that is where hockey has it over basketball. Hockey gives an assist to the pass that sets up the assist. Basketball needs to follow suit. The pass that leads to the assist is just as important as the assist itself). With hard cuts to draw the defense, Georgetown's offense can be a beautiful way to play." He also described the irony of JT2 working in the media as "indescribably delicious." I can only assume that this use of JT2's famous line about winning the national championship was intentional. Well done, Jay.

But could someone please send it to "=BUM" ?
Much obliged.
Might as well pass it along to Gottlieb too, while you're at it.

The best of them all is Jeff Green, who is the best handling and passing big man in the nation. Green is a superior passer, and he might just be the smartest big man in the country. He can hit shots and make plays as a point forward, and he is trustworthy with the ball. Green sees the game two or three passes ahead, and that is a rare skill in today's game. He is the real thing, and a joy to watch play.
Jeff, you're my hero.
