This year's We Are Georgetown shirts have a small AOL.com ad on the sleeve. A lot of school's have ads on their shirts, so I'm not complaining about that. Kurt, I hope that you got a kick back on this. Seriously though, I'd be interested to hear if Hoya Blue gets some funding from the ad (which I hope that it does) or how the funds that AOL must have paid are allocated (I know that this is probably "Top Secret" ;D ). In the end, I imagine this was just a throw-in on the renewal of AOL's sponsorship contract.

I hope that this is something that HB knew about and gets a cut from.

they defeintly new about it. (i didn't but others did) Not sure exactly about any details besides that HB higher ups knew about it i was told.
Edit: i was told by one person that kurt had shown him a layout when i mentioned the add to him. Maybe i misunderstood what he meant but that's what i was refering to. Maybe kurt cna clear this up.

I have to say I'm a lot less interested in this year's version now. I already have the first two versions, and neither of them have a non Hoya logo on them.

I would have much preferred the Athletic Department putting AOL logos (and others if needs be) on gray t-shirts for everyone in the lower bowl of Verizon. If the logo on the Kurt shirt is a step towards someone putting gray all over the phonebooth- then I really don't mind.

I agree with TBird - this ad makes the shirts less desirable to me.

The ad is small. If McDonough was going to put an ad on the shirts, this was the most tasteful way to do so. I just hope that Hoya Blue got (even a small) cut of the deal and that this was not just thrown in to their renewal with little regard for HB or the shirt. Hoya Blue (esp. 007) championed the shirt idea, so I'd hope that the Ath. Dept. had their approval and gives them something for it, even if its so small that its just symbolic.

Good point. Glad to see turning 23 hasnt made TBird any less angry over the lack of gray jerseys for sale.

It's a very small logo on the sleeve that is not very noticeable, but it's up to you if you'd rather wear the previous versions. I'd like to see as many people in We Are Georgetown shirts as possible, but as long as people are in gray I'm happy. The main idea behind this for me has always been uniting Georgetown fans in a single color and making us look like a major program's fan base should.

And if so, how would you punish someone who wore a blue Roy Jersey? Waterboarding? Forcing them to watch the highlight film: Close Games of the Esherick Era?

AOL and Ted Leonsis have been supporters of Georgetown basketball and I believe AOL was an advertiser during the bad years so I have no problem with their logo on the shirts.
Maybe one day we will be playing at the AOL John Thompson Arena on campus.
I think this is a good move by the athletic department to build relationships with advertisers.

I don't care about the logo, I'd still wear it but AOL is still da debil.

Actually your punishment is having to sit with me, StPete, and JerseyHoya in 118. You'll all be getting your complimentary "Close Games of the Esherick Era" gift bag from me before the Hartford game. I've been working for weeks now making all the copies of the VHS tapes I have of those games. In a related story, I've developed a terrible case of depression, my vision is cloudy so I'm seeing 6 of things when there should only be 5, and just yesterday I berated and then beat up a Department Store Santa because he looked like Tim Higgins. But I'm real excited about my new project copying tapes from the Larry Coker era. (As for the WAG shirts, they make electrical tape in gray don't they?)

Be sure to include appropriate slo-mo of that Miami dude swinging his helmet. That was a flip-out that (speaking of great Esherick era moments) Wesley Wilson would have been proud of.

I think this was a way to get them free to students. If that was the case, I'm all for the AOL logo. Besides, Ted is a really good guy, for some he is the greatest Hoya alum out there right now. No problem at all promoting his stuff. He spoke to my group before a Caps game last year, really good guy.

(As for the WAG shirts, they make electrical tape in gray don't they?) Electrical tape? I'm pretty shocked a dude from Florida has never heard of duct tape, a.k.a. gray tape. Also fun to use as a verb. "I kept losing my beer so I graytaped it to my hand."

Happy to promote AOL. Ted's an alum, huge fan, and, most importantly, an AmStuds major.
Seriously though, I am just happy to hear we are getting a new WAG shirt!
