It'd be weird if that was our season opener.

yeah when the ODU game was announced i thought that'd be our opener but this is even earlier i can't see games getting much earlier than this. what's the earliest we've ever started a season / when is are we leagally allowed to start.
Some teams are starting as early as Nov. 10. The earliest Georgetown start is 11/10/1998 (Temple)--Admin

This is a tough way to open the season - our longest OOC road trip and one of our tougher opponents.

This is a tough way to open the season - our longest OOC road trip and one of our tougher opponents. And in my opinion, one of the toughest places to play. It's not that they have a huge fan base and lots of noise or anything, it is just a screwy facility. The benches are on the endlines instead of the sidelines. And the court is sort of elevated. From what all the players say, it is a different feeling. It apparently affects the outside or spot up shooters more. I remember for a long time they had some ridiculous 3 point shooting advantage at home. I haven't heard that much about that recently so something might have changed. I honestly don't know why they get to have their court be different than everyone else's. It would seem like there would be some rules about conformity, but I guess not.

All this said, it's a perfect time to play a team like Vandy.
Early season games are often ugly. But give me ugly with experience at point guard and in the post over experience at the wings any day.
I think we'll absolutely destroy them on the boards without Terrell and Carroll. Skuchas is not playing Roy to a draw this year either. They'll need better than even their 62% from three out of Foster and Byars to beat the Hoyas.

Earliest you can start this season (there are some exempt tourney games starting sooner) is Friday, Nov. 10.

Then of course, Wake Forest got to practice 10 days already on some waiver. Travelled out of the country for one or two exhibition games.

This is a perfect time to play this game. We wouldn't want our freshmen playing their first meaningful road game at Cameron Indoor.

That's actually some NCAA policy which I would suggest all major programs take advantage of. I think you are allowed 1 international trip every 4 years, presumably once per college career of the student. In any case we were scheduled for a Caribben trip last summer, but it was cancelled because of Hurrican activity. Instead we planned a trip for this year. I think Canada was the new destination. In any case, I expect most Universities will take the opportunity for extra practice, extra exposure and extra fun for the team.

Thanks for the suggestion, hifi - I'll pass that right along to Coach Thompson. Glad you brought it to our attention and told us all about what the Gators will be doing this year. We're all looking forward to hearing the results of those games in Canada.

I prefer to play basketball in hurricanes. Best pickup softball game I ever played was during a tropical storm a few years back. The score ended up in the 30s, and it was won on a walkoff single. I dunno about Vandy being the prospective season opener...maybe I'm just on the lookout for a Temple in November 2004 kind of situation developing given the funky arena/road trip required.

I'm thinking of a Hoyas in 2003-04 like year for Vandy. I also think Hoya fans have turned into a bunch of...well...I'll just do the server a favor and say...EDITEDs being scared of so many games this year.
Vandy's best option inside this year is the equivalent of Sead. Sead is our 11th-string forward. A funky arena won't be enough.

The only way that I will be going is if I a can be promised to see Joe Biddle and George Plaster embrace one another @ center court and kiss all manly.
seriously, these two were reason nos. 4 and 6 out 2,998,393,448 why I was ecstatic about moving away from Nashville!
-I do enjoy the bars there, though.

Wasn't impressed with downtown when I was there in '99 but then again we went on a weeknight.
I was staying in Smyrna, went out alot more in the Murfreesboro area.
Did make the Titans game with the Browns that year and the Smyrna air show with the Thunderbirds was taking off and landing over my hotel the day I got there.
