From today's ESPN chat...
Pete (NY): Hey Doug, good job filling in for Colin today. How do you think G'town is going to do this year? Thanks.
Doug Gottlieb: They'll be good, but they'll miss the seniors. A lot of it depends on Roy Hibbard. His development last year was amazing. I think John Thompson III is the perfect fit. They're not a top 20 type team, but if they can have solid inside play, who knows.
Good to see he knows how to spell Roy's name...and he's right, we aren't a top 20 team....WE ARE A TOP 10 TEAM...way to do your research considering EVERYONE at ESPN us in the top 10...moron

Doug Gottlieb singlehandedly makes me grateful that I don't spend any money to be an ESPN "Insider."

He deserves a rusty railroad spike to the neck!
Thieving no account PUNK -On second thought, I choose to let him live...it makes me happy when the idiots at the four-letter network have no idea what they are talking about. Makes it easier to prove them wrong!

Goatlips ain't nothing but a cheater and a hater. By mid-February he'll be planting wet ones on the Hoyas and claim he knew it all along when we anchor ourselves in the top ten.

His original premise is correct - we will miss the seniors and we will miss them alot - early in the season. The key is how long it takes the returning players and the frosh to fill the void. If they step it up quickly, it will be a great year, but don't be surprised to see some disappointments early. I hope I'm very wrong. This will be a real test for III to have this team come out of the gate at full speed.

What many are forgetting is that while we will miss BB, DJ and SoCal (good job ron on the story), we have a junior PG/SG in Jon Wally returning, a seasoned Jessie Sapp ready to emerge as a star and a transfer PE Jr. with 2 years of college experience and a year practicing under this system, to take their place. The dropoff will be slight and may be felt early, but I agree with FTB, by mid season we'll be fine. My guess is Sapp starts @ point with J Wally @ the 2. Ewing will start @ the 3.

With a moniker of doogie, am i required to defend gottlieb? probably not. but i will anyway. the top-20 comment was absurd, but i think we really will miss the seniors. owens was a terrific shooter all year, and cook was absolutely en fuego over the last few weeks of the season.
as always, my concern is outside shooting, and those seniors lit it up all year long. can sapp, egerson, and others do the same? i hope so.

To be fair - he is an insider - after all he played for the Oklahoma Storm for one game until he over-slept and got released.

don't know, but this wikipedia story about him being a draft dogger in Israel is pretty funny though...
"After graduating from college, Gottlieb was picked by the Enid, Oklahoma USBL team the Oklahoma Storm, who made him the first overall draft pick of the 2000 USBL Draft. After a short stint with the Storm, Gottlieb pursued a short-lived basketball career overseas, which included a stop in Israel after signing with Maccabi Ra'anana. Because Gottlieb had to apply for citizenship in order to play for an Israeli team, after Gottlieb left, he was drafted into the Israeli military in absentia, and his absence led the government to file official charges of draft dodging against the unknowing former-point guard. The charges were later dropped."

For a second there, you had me worried that he's a fellow "member of the tribe." I didn't realize there was a citizenship requirement in Israeli basketball in any case.

i need to do some research work to dig up the story in the Daily Oklahoman or Tulsa world - but it is true. USBL must have had a lot going for it if their first draft pick couldn't hit the back board much less a free throw or field goal of any kind.

When I read the title of this thread, I called my bank and all of my credit card companies to check for unauthorized charges...good thing his latest actions are simply borne from stupidity rather than lawlessness.
