No link but I heard it directly from the horse's mouth last night at 10 PM when I was picking up my fiancee at National Airport. Spotted JTIII and got really excited and said, "Coach Thompson!" I told him I was class of 1997 and he asked, "Georgetown or Princeton?" I said G'town and told him how excited we were that he was back in town and congratulations and whatnot. As an afterthought I turned to the white dude next to him and shook his hand and he introduced himself as Rob Burke. He was wearing a Georgetown basketball shirt, which I pointed to quizzically and said, "Does this mean..." And I asked JTIII if he had selected his assistants and he said, "Just him (pointing to Rob." I asked if there had been an announcement and he said, "I don't know." Heh, hoyaparanoia alive and well! But it was definitely an exciting moment. I'm sure I looked like a teenage girl meeting Paul McCartney in 1964 or something, but it was pretty cool. Welcome Rob Burke! Welcome John Thompson III! We are Georgetown.

Well that's one piece of the puzzle (and by most accounts a good one).
Welcome to Georgetown, Coach Burke!

Here's a little bio on Burke from Princeton's official site:
"Robert Burke, a 15-year veteran of college coaching, is in his fourth season as an assistant coach at Princeton.
Before coming to Princeton, Burke spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y., under current Georgia Tech head coach Paul Hewitt. During his tenure, the Saints posted a 66-27 overall record and were among the national leaders annually in scoring and three-point shooting.
He helped the Saints to the 1999 NCAA tournament and the 2000 National Invitation Tournament. In addition, the Saints won two regular-season MAAC titles and played in three straight MAAC championship games during his time at Siena.
Burke also helped assemble three highly-regarded recruiting classes while coaching at Siena and was recognized for his work as one of the top recruiters in the East by Eastern Basketball Magazine.
Burke also spent three seasons as an assistant at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles after starting his coaching career in 1988 at UMBC.
A native of Silver Spring, Md., Burke played with Princeton head coach John Thompson at Gonzaga College High School in Washington D.C., where both were 1984 graduates. Burke went on to graduate from Haverford College in 1988. As a member of the basketball team at Haverford, he was a three-time letterwinner, team MVP and team captain. A torn ACL prior to his senior season ended his playing career.
Burke and his wife Michelle have a son Connor."
Also, is it just me or is guhoyas.com the worst official home page of the D-1 programs? I've seen a lot of pages the last few months (Princeton's is exceptional) and ours is by far the worst. Of course, hoyasaxa.com is the TRUE official page, but outsiders are likely to find guhoyas.com first. Not putting our best foot forward there. Many of the links aren't updated, or are just dead. Anyone know who's truly in charge of it? AD? SID?
GO HOYAS!!!

While I'm not defending the guhoyas.com website, as its deficiencies are fairly well known, is it possible that those in the SID who were previously responsible for updating the men's basketball portion of the site have since been let go as part of JT III's "house cleaning"?

Agreed useless, embarassing and usually inaccurate. Needs some serious attention.

To return to the positive, great anecdote. Those guys sound like they work well together and are committed to a successful rebuilding project. Good stock, good pedigree, good genes, great attitude. I like that Burke's already got a T-shirt.

Speaking of guhoyas.com site updates (or the lack thereof), does anyone happen to know if JT III inherits any leadership with this summer's basketball camp? The website still has the enrollment information with that picture of Esherick where he's leaning really casually on the podium, looking like like he just knocked back a pitcher or two at the Tombs before lecturing the kiddies about running the single fist. www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/school/2004_basketball_camp.html
