HEY, ISN'T THAT . . . ? Alonzo Mourning driving through Georgetown on Wednesday in a green Range Rover, dressed post-workout-style in a tank top. Turns out the Miami Heat center and former Hoya was in town to pick up 9-year-old son Trey from a week-long basketball camp at GU -- there was a "Welcome Alonzo" banner waiting for him on campus yesterday. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/29/AR2006062902354.html

Ok, who made the banner? Was it made using gray paper from the book store and blue spray paint?

Have we made an offer to Trey yet? Yes we offered. We're also giving his mom a job as a VP at the University.

For the record, while GU doesn't do it, you could put a jersey in the rafters without retiring the number.
You want to make Verizon more GU-friendly? Get some jerseys up there.

Memo to Muir: DON'T retire any numbers. Its the name on the front that's important, not the name on the back.
For those who haven't been in McD, every Hoya who PLAYS A GAME in the NBA, has his rookie-year jersey hanging on the far wall of the gym, with a little name plaque below. I'm sure the old Hoyas think that's honor enough.

Unless it's changed this summer, the NBA jerseys were only players after 1980. There are ten other players prior to 1980 that aren't on the wall, but should be.

It's actually not even every Hoya since 1980. I don't believe Robert Churchwell has a jersey on the wall, and he played some with Golden State in the early 90's. I believe it is former Hoyas who were drafted, and the jerseys are the teams that drafted them. Similarly, I don't think Grady Mateen (he didn't graduate from GU, but he IS a former Hoya) has a Sacramento jersey on the wall.

I know Ben Gillery played for the Kings for a season--maybe a season and half. Gillery took the #51 after Mateen transferred.

Yes, it was Gillery I was thinking of, not Mateen. Thanks for clarifying RDF.

Hello. This is my first post. I've been reading the board for years have been a fan for almost 30 years (I'm 38). Anyway, I was on campus Wednesday for the 1st time, accompanying my daughter on a visit to the admissions office & a tour of campus. Of course I dragged her & the rest of the family to McDonough. I was struck by the history of GU Sports - not just the bball trophies, but the other awards as well. Anyway it was pretty cool. And, I got to eat in the Tombs too. It was a great day for me & for my daughter who will likely apply to GU. Finally, as to the initial post above, I did look in the gym & I noticed games going on (I guess from b-ball camp) & the huge banner to Alonzo Mourning (which was a nice touch by whomever thought to put it up). I also saw Jeff Green, but I didn't see Mourning.
