Come on folks, if you think JT III is not briniging his BROTHER back home to be his lead assistant you are really deluding yourself. You can mark that move down in the book. Also, I definitely see Jaren Jackson as not being part of the GU staff next year. We'll see....

I announced weeks ago that JT 3 would bring along Ronny and was laughed at. Thank you for backing me up Ms. Elaine.

you say JTIII with Jaren? Just making sure you weren't talking about his dad..
If you did, that's very interesting...

Would Ronny bring back Townes as well?

Ronny is not coming back. He wants to be a head coach and that's not going to be the case at Georgetown. We'll see, right?

I guess we'll agree to disagree. Ronny will never be a serious head coaching candidate in the coaching fraternity if he is seen as so closely tied to the reputation of his father or brother, as opposed to building his own track record.

Ronny Thompson will never be a head coach anymore, unless its at Georgetown. You can pin this post to the top of the HoyaTalk board if you like. Too closely attached to the disaster of the Esherick era. Here, maybe, there'd be a long shot possibility someday that he could step in if his brother left or something.

I don't buy that for a minute. I could see him coming back to assist his brother for a year or two if JT3 is the guy, but that doesn't mean he'll never coach somewhere himself. This whole "touched by Esherick, therefore doomed" thing is way overplayed, in my opinion. I do think he'd have to start at a much smaller school in a much smaller conference to prove himself, but I am certain coaching with Craig won't keep him out of a head slot for all time.

If JTIII is insisting on Ronny coming back with him, we may have the answer for the delay right there. I don't want Ronny around the team or the university, and I don't think the people making the decision want it either.

Well, he's already been around the team recently. I saw him talking to Bowman and Causey for a pretty long time while they were watching a Charlie Weber Tournament game in McDonough on Saturday.

What is Ronny doing back here if he is Arkansas's assistant coach. Another thing, just because he is JTIII's brother doen't mean he wants to have Ronny working for him.

He was back, like many other coaches, to see top AAU talent at the Charlie Weber tournament in McDonough.

Can't argue w/ coaching under Hewitt and JTIII, IMO.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind that guy- he has lots of DC connections. Him, Jaren, and Ronny would be a superpowered staff!

I'm still very skeptical about the Ronny aspect. I'll never know for certain what went down with Ronny and Craig, but I wonder if Ronny really acted the way an assistant is supposed to.

Sounds like a good #1 Assistant to me. I hope JT3 demanded and received the full power to put together the staff as he sees fit.

I agree SFHoya about Ronny. I think there is a reason he is not getting hired for Head Coaching jobs either. I think Ronny is a good player-relations type assistant, like how he worked with Sweetney. A good 3rd-4th assistant type. I don't think he is good in the X's and O's and nuances of the game department . I wouldn't want him to be a first or 2nd assistant coach nor lead recruiter.
