They really don't have any recruits (or at least no recruits of note) coming in next year either. It'll really be a down year for them. Same for SHU. Both of those programs look, on paper, like they'll really struggle next year.
I've heard Downey might go to Wake, during all the Chris Wright stuff.

I believe Downey's brother went to Wake, but I could be mistaken. Taron Downey is the guy who I am thinking of who could be Devan's brother.
Cincy has commitments from a few JUCO's and also gets Abdul Herrera back.

He was one of the best things going for Cincy after White. If he leaves along with the bulk of their talent Cincy will be competing with USF for second to last place in the BE.
I hope this isnt a downward spiral their program can't overcome. At least Kennedy looks like he can coach.

Talk on the Clemson board when I brought up the Wake thing was that he would not be granted a release to transfer to Wake.

I hope this isnt a downward spiral their program can't overcome. At least Kennedy looks like he can coach. Kennedy's gone too. Their new coach is some guy I've never heard of from.... Weber St.? Someplace like that. He's got an uphill battle ahead of him. Will be at least a year before they get anything really going (because it's really too late for him to do much '06 recruiting). I actually think the conference as a whole will be down a lot next year. UConn, Nova, and WVU, this years top 3 teams, all lose their best players and more. Syracuse loses their best player too. Georgetown and Pitt keep their best players, but both have some noteworthy departures as well. 'Ville loses their best player, but should come on strong next year anyway because they've got a lot of other developing players around them. Same story Marquette--lose their best player (arguably) but will still be solid because they've got some other developing young guys. RU probably loses Douby, and if they don't get Lance or E. Harvey, they'll be in the bottom half again too. Will be interesting to see if PC or SJU gets their act together enough to make a move up in the conference. Same with DePaul, who I think brings back their 2 best players. SHU and Cincy are looking pretty weak at this point, and I think USF probably needs another year or two of recruiting as a Big East program to close the talent gap before they make any real noise in basketball. I really doubt the Big East sends 8 next year.

DePaul could be a surprise team. They came on at the end of the year, or so it seemed. They could fight for a bid next season, but I think we're looking at fewer bids as a conference --- GU, Pitt, SU, and Nova seem like the only probables, and you probably can pencil in UCONN too because they never downright stink. MU might make 6, but I am hard pressed to feel confident about any of the remaining teams.

Furman is in Greenville, SC. Maybe they traded him for Larry Davis.

Just some notes, Downey is from Chester which is close to both Rock Hill (Winthrop) and Charlotte.

1) Taron Downey (a Wake god) and Devan Downey are not related 2) Downey wants to be closer to home as his family did not want him far away 3) People are saying Skip Prosser's rejection of the UC job is causing UC to not allow Downey to look at Wake (he'd have to sit out 2 years I believe) 4) South Carolina would be a favorite, but he had quite the negative things to say before USC and UC squared off in the NIT. 5) Kennedy is taking over at Ole Miss, the favorite to receive Downey's services.

Said something about not going to SC because they just go to the NIT all the time was what I heard he said about them at some point.
The top HS basketball talent in SC goes out of state traditionally (see: Felton, Raymond.)
